I have introduced myself in the New Member section, but want to add a few words here re. fishing opportunities. Ontario has lots of water, yet most of it is lakes. Most rivers connect lakes and are neither long nor cool, and they tend to be of only medium velocity or slower. Not many of them hold trout and then for only a few miles (unless you are very far north - like 10 hours drive). So the T-rod will be used in headwaters within an hour of Toronto where I usually use a 7.5ft 3wt. But as you know, there are places where a high-stick method is pointles with a short rod and a cast of 25ft crosses too many currents to avoid drag. The solution here seems to be tenkara, so I am happy to have discovered it. I have fished places in North America where the same challenge exists when using a 9ft 4wt rod, so the T-rod will often be in the pack even when western-style fishing. I'm still figuring out lines, but since I have yet to hit the water with tenkara I guess I will gain from experience. BTW, fishing season here is from the last Saturday in April until the end of Sept. for trout, later for bass, but after the first cold shock by Oct 15 they tend to shut down even if the legal season doesn't. A long seaon of tying is the consequence.

springerman - where in general is you aunt located? Do you know the name of the neibourhood or main cross roads? I am all over the city in my work, and it is amazing how the 6 degrees of separation are only 3 or 4 at times. Cheers, Greg.

Hi Greg, Welcome to the forum and to tenkara fishing. Being up in the north of Scotland I can empathise with you when it comes to a short season which is dominated by the weather. Steve

Hello Greg, Will have to get back to you. Both my Aunt and Uncle are in a home as they are into their 90's. I can not lay my hands on their address at present.

Hi Greg, and as the rest have said welcome to our friendly forum. I'm sure you will find plenty of good info here and if you have a question someone is bound to have an answer, Tenkara around the world is still evolving so it's nice to have you on board. Simon.

Simon, Thanks for remembering the question. The weather in Welland is generally a little milder than Toronto, so if they can get outdoors at their 'home', they should have some nice days. Right now we are in the middle of an 8 week deep freeze, so no open water - not even the Welland Canal!

Thanks Greg, come the weekend we are to experience some above average temperatures 15-17 degrees they say. Drier as well, may mean we can get some fishing in after all the rain. Our season starts here, usually, on 15th. Looking forward to it I can tell you.

I thought I would give the members a laugh. My friend and I received our T-Times Try 360s last Friday but have had no time to test them. Firstly, with a number of other club members we went to Detroit for the weekend for the MidWest Fly Fishing Expo (4 hour drive - stayed 2 nights, learned much even after all these years). Then yesterday it was a blizzard, today bright and clear and 18F. Casting on fresh snow at least shows where the fly landed! Still 5 weeks until the pay-as-you-play ponds open, and 6 weeks until trout season. Cabin fever on the rise. Cheers

Greg, Sorry to mention this but our season starts tomorrow, Saturday 15th!! To be a cold breezy day. We have experienced some very warm unseasonal days of late. Hope your weather improves. Then you will show us a thing or two I am sure.

Sorry to hear about the snow & long wait till your trout season starts. One bright spark is that you'll love the TRy 360s when you get to try them.
