Very strange day today. Fish rising occasionally ! Tried small ptn and JP special kebari sub surface. Nothing ! Out of frustration tried fishing JP with floatant. Success X 3 . Only stopped because Chiefs k.o. at 3 !

It's strange. Usually a blank day is cause for concern, tinged with sadness ! A very windy and bright day on the Dorset Frome may not have helped . And then, a bbq in front of the fishing hut, with all the food at less than 1/2 price, one glass of wine and its 3.30. pm and just time to fish up to the top boundary. Back to the car for a quick "Kelly kettle coffee. The icing on today's cake is April 2017 will see me joining the Little syndicate with chalk stream "on the fly" whenever I chose! Oh joy! Particularly as I commenced phased retirement on 23/10 cutting to 3x5 hour shifts a week! So a blank day becomes a celebration!

Hi Mark: strange that you met my friend Simon from Scotland in the supermarket - small world.
Things are progressing with his new job in Somerset so you'll be seeing more of him if it goes through.

Clocks gone back-leaves fallen-river unseasonably low. I am filled with wonder at our preferred activity. Only the occasional brownie during the season, now is the time for grayling nymphing . Two today , one of decent size! Quickly returned. Several grayling as well. I learnt today that I need to be quieter near and in the water. Today's fishing dedicated to the memory of Sonia M

As with my last post , a philosophical note. As the seasons pass I am coming to the belief that rituals are as ,if not , more important than the fishing and the end result. As I marked the end of the grayling season,so today I marked the start of WBT season here on the Tone. The river was unfishable and I still paid my respects to the river. It is still there, in all its moods. We still have a local fishing club and I am still able to get "bankside" Even more poignant as I learnt yesterday, from his daughter ,that my best mate cannot manage the yards from car to bank. Shortness of breath makes even a few yards difficult . And he it was who started my fishing journey! Must find a way to get him bankside even though he is coarse!
