It's with deep regret that I have to inform you that Mike died 2 days ago of a massive heart attack. He was the founder of Tenkara Centre UK and I'm sure many of you have met him at the various shows. He was a big man with a big personality and a respected APGAI instructor and assessor within the Game Angling Instructor's Association.
He did much to further Tenkara in the UK and will be sadly missed by many in the angling fraternity.
Our thoughts are with his wife Linda at this terrible time.

I am very saddened by that news! Looking at my phone messages he sent me one on Friday in regard to next years tenkara day on the ribble. He must have passed away the same day. I spent a memorable day on the Usk about a month ago. That experience made up my mind to concentrate on tenkara. I only hope there is some decent water up there.

Very sad news indeed. The UK Tenkara scene has lost one of it's main characters. My thoughts are with his wife.

It was an excellent day ! The last but one txt I sent mike was about.a young woman with cerebral palsy ,wheel chair bound casting with one of his rods into the middle of a lake on a day for young people with learning difficulties. It is an amazing tool for people with any kind of disability. He has had a great influence to bring fly fishing to those would have been exclude

Found out via Paul and JP first thing this morning a Burton-on-Trent Game and Fly Tying Festival. Expected to see him today. Shocked to hear of his passing today.

WOW massive shock to hear this news saw Mike do a tenkara demo twice at Bolton Fly tyers club first on tenkara in general which gave me the urge to explore and take this fantastic method up. The second time was demonstrating his tying of tenkara flies and was a real insight. The thing that sticks with me most is that I saw him at the BFFI and he greeted me like an old friend took the time to stop and chat away from his busy stand remembering Id seen and spoke with him at the tying demo. A great loss to the fishing world and tenkara scene my thoughs are with his family.

I echo all of the above comments. What a shock and terribly sad with Mike a relatively young man. My thoughts are also with Mike's family at this time. Glyn

Mike's breezy confidence and clarity of presentation in his little video "Tenkara Tactics", helped to give me the courage to get into this wonderful pursuit. I vividly remember Mike, knee deep in the Dee on the Tenkara Forum Day at Sun Inn, Llangollen, with two of his Tenkara rods, one in each hand, casually casting alternately and repeatedly into the pool to "test them", as he put it! A man of such energy, it makes this news all the more shocking and sad.

I met Mike for the first time at the BFTF at the beginning of TenkaraUK, Mike donated a rod to the forum for one of our competitions. Over the next few years Sonia and I met hIm at various shows, his enthusiasm for Tenkara was infectious as he described and explained what we all love about this branch of fly fishing. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Terrible news about Mike. He introduced me to Tenkara at a casting day, May 2013. He was a character and a great ambassador for Tenkara and the sport of fishing. He will be missed by so many.
