Just bought a Wye and Usk Wild Stream pass. I will report on my progress throughout this year.
The Wild Stream Pass takes over from the Passport scheme and is very good value for local anglers £75 per year and you can fish as often as you want and as many beats as you want.
I hope the rain holds off long enough to allow a trip this month.

First day out on Dore at Vowchurch. No fish but a good morning out on the river. The river was abit up and coloured. I found some otter foot prints on the bank.

I have it on my list to fish the Dore Adric as some of my mates give good reports. What part of the world do you live in - I guess somewhere close to the borders? I am near Pershore in Worcestershire so it is not too far for me. I was on the Frome on Friday and Wylye Saturday - some nice 'ladies' caught but it was trotting as the rivers were roaring through and coloured. Much as I love fly fishing - sometimes it is completely unsuitable. Got my Wild streams pass too and will be out there as soon as things settle. Cheers Glyn

Richard Looks a nice fish. Do try the Irfon at some time at Cefnllysgwynne - lovely grayling in there. Was on the Lugg near Leominster yesterday and did Ok despite the horrendous weather - trout to 14". I will be on the Escley brook, Honddu, Monnow at the end of next week conditions permitting. Where is the nice weather? Good luck with the Wild streams - so many to go at. Cheers Glyn

Thanks for your comments it was caught on the Monnow at Longtown.
I think you might be lucky to be able to fish those waters judging by the rain now falling on the catchment area and the propensity for them to colour up. But hears hoping.

Tenkara Odyssey 2013 My first 2013 WBT and other things
This season has only got going over the last two weeks. I managed my first WBT at the beginning of May from the Lower Longtown beat of the Monnow. Attachment DeletedTrout from Monnow I will have to learn how to take good photographs of fish while holding rod, net and waiding A few days later I caught my first fish on my new 8ft ISSUI again from the Monnow but this time it was the Upper Longtown beat. Photo of upper longtown beat Last Saturday I managed a bit of a fishing odyssey fishing three beats of the River Edw a tributary of the Wye. I even discovered a free section which runs up from the Aberedw Fishery for about half a mile. My informant told me that it was not very good stretch. I caught fish on dry fly on all three beats I fished (Hergest Fishery, Cregrina Fishery and Hundred House Fishery) all available through Wye and Usk.

Richard That picture of the Monnow makes it look like it could be tough as it seems low clear and shallow - red indian stuff I guess! Have never been on the Edw - yet. Interesting that you are down to an 8' rod - I have used my 10'Kiyotaki a couple of times and it calls for quite a degree of stealth to get in position but, is really good fun on WBT. I have only used a line/leader which is just longer than the rod and broken pocket water seems to help in getting close. Kneepads rule! Have fun Glyn

It is but the Lower Monnow can be tackled with a 3.6 metre rod quite easil. The Edw definatly requires a shorter rod.

Just back from a trip out on the Irfon at Aberbwtran. Great beat with lots of water to try. This is one of the easier Wild Fish beats. I caught 3 great grayling which made my T rod really hum. This beat is worth a try if you are near Builth Wells.

Richard I was at Abernant last Friday and had a great day with a mate from Moccas. I was fishing 'T' and he on Western trying out some new Sakasa Kebari patterns. Nymphs did not work although very few fish were rising but we did well on dry/emergers. Had over 40 fish between us- all grayling and one trout. Nice piece of water which is basically two big pools. Give it a go - it is not a wild stream but worth the money on a warm cloudy day. I have never been to Aberbwtran but heard of it from others all of who say it is a fine beat. The Irfon really comes into its own after floods as it drops so quickly and clears way before the others. As you found out there are some 'lumps' in there! Glyn

Went out last Friday for the last try for trout. It was a beautiful day but did not live up to it promise as far as fish were concerned. I was fishing the Titley beat of the river Arrow. A lovely beat but there did not seem to be many trout in there.
A real disappointing end to the trout season.
