Received mine this morning. Looks good, slightly heavier than the ESO rod and lacking some detail. The end plug is in plastic rather than metal, but overall finish is good. The lilian appears to be simply glued to the end. I will get out for a few ours tomorrow morning before work and see how it handles. First impression is good and at £40 its a sensible way to start out.

Had an hour at Winn Gardens on the Don this morning with the new rod. 1 small wbt, result!! The rods action is defiantly stiffer than the ESO rod but quite pleasant to use. The silver sections seem to disappear as you extend the rod and are not an issue i believe. I noticed the handle plug has a vent hole ... condensation..? As for spare tips, i have an ESO spare tip and its identical from a size and fit point of view. This appears to be a cheaper version of the ESO rod as i suspected, it does not have the fine finish or better fittings of the up market version but still a good usable rod.

Guess what turned up in this mornings post.....ST360 all the way from Japan. So, what do I think ?...I think it's a cheap tenkara rod that will serve as a good backup or for when friends want to join me for a try. I also think it would make an OK starter rod for anyone not wishing to shell out more than about 50 quid to get going with tenkara. The service from the seller was excellent, no complaints there at all and no complaints about the quality to cost ratio either. What I will say is that I have a 30 quid fly rod from shakespeare and a 30 quid spinning rod from mitchell, both of which are outstanding value for the price and quality wise put this 30 quid tenkara rod to shame, so, there you have it. The ST360....it's not all bad

My curiosity takes me to google.co.jp I thought it might be interesting to see what the Japanese make of the ST 360, I was surprised to find that a few bloggers over there have write ups about the rod. I also found it in a number of shops ranging in price from £20 to £30 so it looks like the ebay price is quite fair. This lead me to look deeper into what is available over in Japan and there are a lot of options. Some of the rods look lovely and they're not even that expensive tbh. I saw some really nice rods from Nissin and Diawa from around £100 but I also saw some nice rods for around £40. It's a shame they're not available here or we could all become tenkara rod tarts Something that I also found very interesting was the descriptions of the rods and the flies they recommend fishing with them like the "classic parachute or elk hair caddis", no kidding. This is how one retailer describes the ST 360: "Ideal for beginner Tenkara fishing. 7:3 in the basic tone easy swing"

Just a note for anyone thinking of importing....
Remember there will be import duty and tax to add on to the cost of the rod plus postage if customs pick it up so you'll be looking at around 30% on top of the price you already paid.

This has always concerned me about importing, I'd rather have a smooth ride and not have to pay additional charges, I also have trust issues which is what generally keeps me buying from UK dealers. I guess if you factor in the taxes and are still happy to import at the elevated price then fair enough. It's also worth bearing in mind when importing that there's little chance of any after sales service.

If we support EU companies they will be able to survive and therefore support us.

I took the ST 360 out for a couple of hours this afternoon, it felt very comfortable to fish with, very light and casting was nice. I had a few trout to 12" and the last trout of the day gave me one of the best fights I've had all season, I've had bigger fish but it was so punchy.
Anyway, the rod is really nice to fish with, the 7:3 action feels quite different to my 6:4 but not in a negative way. All round I was quite surprised by the rod, for a cheap rod that doesn't have great looks it fishes really well and I guess that's what's important.
I really like the shape of the grip on this rod, the quality of the cork is poor but it's very comfortable.

Guys,
Some information from HMRC website re importing goods
If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you: • don't have to pay Excise Duty • may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135 • will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.

Daniel,
Thanks for taking the time to write up a report on the Wizz Tenkara ST360....I think its a good idea to have two rods so that you can fish with a friend or introduce a youngster to the sport...
Tenkara Times also has a great deal going with their starter kit...rod, line, flies the lot at 83 euros which is around £66 plus P&P .....excellent....I think we could do with more rod reviews on this forum outwith the mainstream Tenkara USA rods

As for spare tips, i have an ESO spare tip and its identical from a size and fit point of view. This appears to be a cheaper version of the ESO rod as i suspected, For info, I snapped the 2nd top section of my ST360 last week, ordered a new tip set from Daniel at Eso, which arrived this morning (many thanks once again Daniel for such a speedy service). The Eso 360 tip sections are very slightly narrower than the ST360, and do not fit (They simply pull completely through). If anyone else has this rod and breaks a tip, the Ebay seller, polly-nyan, has this statement on the last lot he sold: I have emailed him asking for info on prices/shipping on tip sets and will let you know when (if) I hear back. Looks like the next Tenkara item that I purchase will be the Eso 360... now that I have a set of spare tips My Eso 410 could do with a wee brother ;D Tight lines Gary

It's also worth bearing in mind when importing that there's little chance of any after sales service. Not always the case. Depends on where you buy. After sales service / replacement parts, etc. available on all rods imported from TenkaraBum.com.

Well corrected Tenkarabum, also worth noting that the seller of this rod on ebay has said that he can provide replacement parts.
