Oh flippin'eck ... I just sent off the money for my new rod. It's a 360 6:4 sample of the rods I hope to sell in the UK. Custom finish, logo's etc. It'll take a while to make and ship to me but I'm too excited not to post a notice about it already!

Alex
I've asked for photo's to be taken of the process of making the rod so we'll get a look before it even reaches me. If I can get these sold I'll be looking for a full range from 330 to 450 and 5:5 to 7:3 action.
However, cash is the issue so hopefully I can sell a few and expand the range as people ask for other sizes.
I'm also working on other Tenkara specific products from line spools to hi-viz fluorocarbon and tapered fluorocarbon specifically designed for the purpose. I've even got EZ-Keepers on order but you wouldn't believe the delivery time quoted, so no breath holding please!
I do have some interesting camo tippet already and will expand into camo fluorocarbon for sub surface work. It just takes time to do the negotiations and have have everything sent from the other side of the world.
When I do get the rod I'll arrange a trip over so the good folks of UK Tenkara Forum can have a play. How does that sound?

Cust, It will be interesting to see how your online shop develops over time. Yeah..it would be good if you came to a Forum get together so that other members have a try.....Simon's organising something later this year....it's on the Forum. I have been looking at your website that you are building up...when I looked a few weeks ago you didn't sell hooks so I bought some (only 25) barbless on ebay...the ones that you are now selling....I'll buy from you in future. Cheers Alex, that's very good of you. I'm adding stuff all the time and researching new items. I'll only be stocking barbless hooks and I already have my eye on a few more types. The rules on the Isle of Man are changing and the local anglers are now looking to barbless as a rule rather than the exception so I'll be expanding the range.
Had an email from my man in Japan yesterday. He's located some smaller eyeless hooks so they will be in the next shipment along with some other interesting items.
If there is anything specific people are looking for let me know. I've got great contacts and might be able to locate it for you.

A couple of pictures just in: Just waiting for the stickers to be put on and the final coating applied. The handle glued in place with a silver spacer then loaded into it's tube with a cloth bag and sent to me. You can see there are two shades on the blank. I can't decide which I prefer so I had the butt made in one finish the rest of the rod in the other. I'm getting excited now!

the rod looks well good,is it a matt/ none flash finish that will be going on the rod? also ,what about a nice cork handled 5:5 rod of round about 8-9ft for small streams........bit of a tenkara/tanago borderline, that would be nice? any idea of prices for the rods yet? and another also, will the slotted tungy beads for the size 16 jig hooks fit the size 14 hooks? i ask cos most of the fishing im going to be doing this season is away from my river and on the streams, most of them you can step across in a lot of places and its mainly fishing the deeper holes with not enough flow to warrant big beads but pacey enough not to get a normal brass bead down quick enough to the brownies that live there.i used a size 14 hares ear last season with a small tungsten bead for size 16-18 hooks but lost a fair few due to the snags so jig hooks have now become a good option.

is that a matt burgundy finish on the handle section? I like it. Will you be able to ship overseas; would be nice to maybe post a review on my pages.

... and lines, don't forget the lines. That's what I find the hardest to find - Hi-vis flourocarbon line and hi-vis tippet material (for furling your own lines). If you sell Tenkara rods you have to sell tenkara friendly lines as well. Good luck. ;-) /Stefan

Okay ... first off .. . I hope Simon will start me up an Esoteric tackle thread in mMarketplace part of the forum so I can keep everyone up to date and what is coming in and tell me what you're looking for. You can always "like" the Facebook page and I'll keep people updated there as well.
dave1972... It's not a full gloss but it's not a matt either. I know thwe argument about stealth and flashing rods, but how much of it is just marketing? I've never had a problem even with the high gloss rods I own. Plus, if it was matt you couldn't appreciate the beauty of the top quality Japanese carbon fibre.
This is the only size I'm styarting with. Darned expensive business starting up. Then, fingers crossed they sell, I'll go with a longer rod... finally p[roducing 5:5 and 7:3 flex rods in both sizes. Only after that I'll start looking at other oddball sizes. Price range between £85 and £95.... but 'm considering a special deal on the first 20 rods sold!
I got the 14's hook out and the 2.5mm bead and yup... they go on. Slight "click" as the are pressured round the bends but they do go without too much help.

karel, jasonklass
Yes I will post overseas. Just depends on the package size etc. However I will work it out so it's not prohibitive and still competative. A review on your pages would be great, but I'm still some way off full production. I want to make sure these rods perform and look as good as the best out there.
The colour is red, but we'll see how burgundy it turns out when I get it in my hands. I'm also considering a translucent red. I really want to show off the weave of the fibre rather than have a blanket cover.

I'm hoping to have hi-vis fluorocarbon lines by the end of the month. They are ordered and coming in from a top class Japanese line maker. I'll be doing the whole range of Tenkara equipment including those really cool Oni yellow spools with a little metal bar for the fly and specialist hooks without an eye or a spade end. I'm just waiting for the distriutor to get it all together and they are on their way!
Remember....this thread will move to the Marketplace as soon as Simon has it setup. It's got wayyyy too comercial to be in the main forum area.
