Good morning from a hot St Albans. I'm Delray, and just about to start Tenkara fishing, assuming my kit gets to me safely! I've been fly fishing on rivers for 4 years and often read threads on flyfishing.co.uk on Tenkara, and after a follow up on Discover Tenkara, on here and some other websites, have decided to try to learn the art, culture and techniques of it, and that's not to say I know exactly what I'm doing with 'standard' fly fishing! I'm 55 plus, 60 minus, love rugby, my 2 dogs (Hungarian Vizslas), my wife (in case she reads this) and have recently discovered Derbyshire for fly fishing which means my use of diesel has gone through the roof.. I reckon Tenkara will fit very well up in the Peaks. So, that's me in a paragraph or 2, and I look forward to being an active member on this forum, although for the first few months it will probably be reading and asking questions, so please bear with me! Thanks and best regards to all. Delray (same user name on flyfishing.co.uk)

Welcome Delray, I'm sure you'll find, as I have, that this forum is run by and full of, the most helpful and dedicated anglers, who happen to love Tenkara. I am lucky not to have to travel so far as you, but Derbyshire is worth a visit! I am curious about the River Ver, which runs near you. Can you fish there? The photos on Google Earth seem to show quite a productive stream. It looks suitable for Tenkara, if you can get on it!

Hi Delray Welcome to the forum and best wishes with your Tenkara journey. You will find some good streams in the Peaks, if they have not dried up! Glyn

Ooops, may have just put a 'like' by my own post....idiot. Many thanks for the welcome. dbl, the Ver is just around the corner from me; the southern end of it before it joins the Colne. There are certainly WBT present up towards Redbourne and in the city park, (Verulam Park), and just this week while walking the dogs just south of the town centre I saw a nice trout make a splashy rise in a fast stretch which is about 6 feet wide, so when the kids aren't around throwing in tyres and shopping trollies I will be doing some more exploration. As usual the more likely looking stretches are on (very) private land, but you never know... Regards to all, Del.

These town centre stretches are a bit of a secret garden. Often free, they can be great fun, as I've begun to discover. Nice video of John P and Paul G demonstrating this from their blog: www.discovertenkara.co.uk/hybrid-tenkara-grayling-the-secret-fly/(If your kit is from Tenkara Times, you'l find a lot of positive comments from Forum members, especially, but not exclusively, Daves.)

It is Tenkara Times. Possibly an advantage having nothing to compare it to......we'll see how it goes, eventually.
