a happy good day to one and all,
i'm mike willis, and i am happy to be here. a few nights ago i found this forum while surfing the webs for trout in cornwall. you see, my grandfather was born in lanner, and i am hoping to visit relatives there one day (and fish) in the not so distant future. i'm also excited to read about your tenkara experiences and tactics, and to share mine.
i've been angling in the tenkara style for a year and a half now and i have really fallen in love with it. i'd just begun fly fishing and was searching for information when i discovered daniel's tusa videos. i was so taken by the lack of all that is western style fly fishing that i knew tenkara was for me. soon after, i was emailing back and forth with both chris stewart and jason klass and soon after that i purchased a used yamame for $50. fate would have it that the gentleman who sold me the rod had a number of tenkara rods he did not want, so i bought the rest from him.
since then, i've been fishing my bum off. i started out at a creek near my house. lots of bluegill, largemouth bass, and crappie (and recently carp). it wasn't until january of this year, when i volunteered at the tenkara usa booth at a couple of shows and met up with some seasoned tenkara anglers, that i began heading up into the hills to chase trout. this summer has been fantastic. as a high school teacher, i have june and july off and i have tried to get out as much as possible (when i'm not getting work done around the house and whatnot). i've even had the opportunity to present at a local fly fishing club.
that about sums up my introduction. please feel free to look me up on facebook. i'm most often on: tenkara anglers, tenkara where?, and tenkara catch.
