I've got quite a few lying about from my coarse fishing. Could anyone suggest a knot that will give me a small loop of either nylon or thread? I can't seem to find the traditional Tenkara fly knot which I assume would do.
thanks

Hi Berylsan, I've enjoyed tying some traditional style kabari with silk eyes. The kabari look great and it might be what you are looking for. Esoteric also sell a nylon cord that does the same job, but is a little easier to handle and will last longer. If you follow the link below, you'll see that there is a wide choice of colour that you can match to your pattern. I personally prefer using red for almost all of the ones I've tied, as it acts like a little tag (great for grayling). www.esoterictackle.co.uk/eyeless-hooks/50-100-silk-bead-cord.htmlHope this helps! Berylsan If you are talking of attaching the silk to the hook then lash the silk to the hook with your tying silk just as you would when tying a material in. Some guys dab some superglue on at this point or a bit of varnish for security at this point before completing the fly. I think some tyers also lash plenty of silk down the body even so far as making it a tail when starting off or giving bulk to the body - your choice. You are likely to find plenty of examples on you tube for sure. Good luck Glyn

Glyn has it correct. The loop will probably last longer than the fly.

I've taken delivery of more silk today and will be increasing the range of colours in the nylon variety. They should be showing in the shop by tomorrow as soon as I check the order.
The eyeless hooks I supply are Japanese Ayu hooks and have ridges on the shank which stop the thread pulling off. You can feel these by pulling your nail over the shank. (http://www.esoterictackle.co.uk/14-eyeless-hooks)
Cheers
Daniel.
