We hear a lot about the subtle application of movement to Sakasa Kebari flies & there is no doubt that at times such movements induce trout & grayling to take our flies. However, other than sutebari little is said about the application of subtle movements to dry flies. Tenkara is brilliant for this aspect of dry fly fishing. Sedges & Mayfly Duns can be skittered without any line on the water to upset the presentation. Daddies & Mayfly Spinners can be twitched at intervals to simulate their death throes. Dance Flies can literally be danced on the water & Sedge pupae can be moved realistically in a continuous series of mini twitches. All of this requires a relatively short, light line for the optimum of presentation. A few days ago whilst fishing a series of small pockets adjacent to some tree roots on the Yorkshire Derwent I had my Hawthorn fly ignored whilst it was dead-drifted. I was sure that each pocket held a fish amongst the root cover. Dancing my fly over each spot resulted in explosive takes.

Good one dave. I like that. I have on many occasions twitched a dry,(like many other fishermen), and got results. I will give your idea a try when next I am out. Thank you.
