Stephen Cheetham and I lead our first tenkara course of 2014 on the River Wharfe at Ilkley with four experienced fly anglers keen to find out more about the method and approach. Grey, damp and cold conditions made conditions difficult but five minutes into the fishing we had our first wild brown trout of the season. All the qualms about bringing a fish to hand allayed, we had over ten fish to hand over the afternoon session. A couple in the 1lb mark and all in pristine condition. Occasional hatches of LDO's raised spirits but all fish caught on traditional kebari patterns with Sasoi inducements creating quite a stir in the minds of the four chaps. Here's a couple of images, it's very difficult to look after four guys spread out on the river, take images and video too: Very satifisfying to see how quickly the guys got to grips with the cast, high rod tip position, and maintaining contact with the fly throughout the drift. Happy days and happy tenkara. Phil

Phil, you were lucky to get on the river. Ribble still too high for me. Well done. My regards to Steve.
