This looks like a great forum!
Just recently returned home after twelve years working in the midlands. Down there my fishing was traditional coarse fishing - cane rods, centrepins, quill floats, H. T. Sheringham, etc with regular trips up here for french nymphing and dry fly on the Calder and its tributaries.
So I reckon tenkara will be a nice marriage of the two - keeping things simple, aesthetics and a bit of tradition. Got an Iwana 12' in the post and a vice primed for some kebaris!

Hi John
Welcome to the forum. Lots of information to go at on here. I'm in Keighley, just up the road, if you ever fancy hooking up.
Cheers and happy tenkara.
Phil

Hi John, welcome on board - I think we chatted on the fly forums recently, so I'm glad you've also found this dedicated forum too. It can be handy to go to the home page and then click 'recent threads' to see the most recently updated threads and posts. Also, you might be interested in the 7 free tenkara articles that JP and me did for Eat Sleep Fish on this link: www.uk-tenkara.proboards.com/thread/646/7-free-articles-tenkara

Welcome John. Great forum with lots of folks sharing good ideas. In Hebden Bridge you are walking distance from one of my favourite trout streams.

Thanks for the hellos. I was lucky enough to cut my teeth as a young lad on the Calder and its tributaries. Even better is that I've moved into a house next to the river itself. Heaven! Paul, thanks for the link. Great articles. Give us a shout if you've ever up this way. It would be good to meet up. Thanks for the invitation Phil. I shall take you up on it once the gods of rain allow us a little time to get on the river.

Welcome to the forum John, If you're familiar with the Calder (and its tribs) you may like the look of Fish On Productions' - Small Stream Trout Fishing DVD. If you click on the "video trailer" tab in the link above you can see the filming location (very close to you). There's no tenkara in the DVD but they are fishing a "fly to hand" style that would work just as well on a tenkara rod.

Would be cool to take a Rhodo on there to compare and contrast

I did wonder when I saw the trailer a few years back. I don't recognise it as the Hebden. Is it the Ryburn?

Hello John, Welcome to the world of Tenkara. You have made some good contacts in a very short space of time. Plenty to digest on the forum and the lads you have spoken to have a wealth of knowledge. Enjoy.

I did wonder when I saw the trailer a few years back. I don't recognise it as the Hebden. Is it the Ryburn? We were sworn to secrecy when we filmed the DVD so I can't reveal any concrete info To be honest, you'll have the time of your life fishing tenkara on any of the Calder's tribs. As Paul G said, the Tenkara USA Rhodo is the perfect tool for tenkara on those small streams; at 8'10", 9'9" and 10'6" all in one zoom rod you'd be covered right from the main river all the way up to the headwaters.
