I thought people may be interested to see that Dr Ishigaki has recently featured Seth and his Tamos on his blog.
Please be aware that thing disappear from the top of his blog fairly quickly, so it may not be easy to find in a week or two.
Also worth noting if you view the google translated version is that google translates "tamo" as "ash". That's actually the literal meaning of tamo in Japanese.
What a tremendous accolade for Seth - brilliant! Plus the fact that Ishigaki san is using the net himself makes it even more praiseworthy. Congratulations Seth and thanks for the update JP. Glyn
" There is so much more to fishing than just catching fish"
Thank you John, Glyn and Ian for your kind comments. Of course I am very flattered and highly honoured that Ishigaki san should like the tamo, presented to him last September, so much.
Some of the images in his blog show my use of genuine washi to dress the tamo. I understand that it is this idea, explained to him in a recent e-mail, that has prompted him to post this blog.
Currently I am working on hand painting some genuine washi to look like Mamushi snake skin, the idea prompted by the use of real Mamushi skin to form the body of the Mamushi kebari attributed to Dr Hirata. If I can get it looking right I shall use it to dress some of my future tamos.
Have a great Christmas: all the best for 2014 and the new tenkara trout season (13 weeks to go)!
I also see he is using one of the rods that you own as well JP; the Nissin Fuji Flow
I chatted with Ishigaki-san about the rod and he informed me he's good friends with the rods designer Hiromichi Fuji. I know he also chatted and fished with Seth's Fuji Flow rod too and if I recall correctly Ishigaki-san caught the first fish on Seth's new rod.
The rod is a bit different to the average tenkara rod in terms of it's looks but it's an absolute pleasure to fish with
