As I have been stuck in Glasgow for the last 3 weeks I needed a fix on the river! Problem being is the severe weather we are having in the UK. One of the coldest nights, measured -11.5 on our weather station. Sonia said I was mad. Anyway I decided to give it a go. By the time I got onto the river the temp was still a very low -6.5, I set up the Tenakra with a couple of heavy nymphs. The wading was fine only major problem was the furled leader, every time I cast it was getting stiffer and stiffer, it was like having another rod connected to the tip! After 20mins had to give up as the freezing water on the leader had beaten me. No fish but a fantastic looking river. Hope the photos look as good as the real thing. Simon

Well done Simon for braving the cold, looks a great little river the photos look really good! Cannot get out fishing yet as most ponds are frozen, and the river is too high, even the drains are frozen over!

Simon,
Would a level leader have done the trick?

Hi Pedros Not sure about the level leader it was so cold I think anything exposed to the freezing air would build up a coating of ice, how many times has your normal flyline frozen in the rod eyes? Has anyone else had this problem with line freeze?

That river looks excellent. Is it a publicly free Mark or do you need permission?

Now this may already exist but I have not noticed it so sorry if I am being blind.
As I am a new fly fisherman and even newer Tenkara fisherman it would be really helpful to have a list of sites to fish. When I post catch reports on sea forums I indicate where I have been and if there are any access issues. My intention for the reports I post is to detail the venue, give a link to the location along with any information on costs. That way everyone here could benefit from information I manage to gain,
Being able to read the same from others would be awesome but a specific thread for that information would make sense.
Hopefully not missed the existing thread that already does this. Nice to be on this forum, not manic busy but still getting updated even though the cold is in.

Has anyone else had this problem with line freeze? Wupperfischer reported that water droplets froze on a level line, but he didn't mention the line getting stiff. On a Western rod, I suspect the problem is the eyes much more than the line. If it's that cold, I stay home and tie flies, so can only pass along the findings of hardier souls!
