I have seen the method used to connect the fishing line to the end of the rod but was curious about another method. The whole gripping the knot thing seems a little precarious. My main line on the fly rod has little braided loops that the line is thread into and then secured. Would this also be a suitable method on the tenkara rods as it seems to provide a more reliable connection.
I have not used the rod yet as it has only just arrived but I want the set up to be perfect for my first trip out with it so I can get the best initial experience

Trust me the way they show is very secure! Had no problems with the salmon I landed last Xmas.

And much, much more convenient than threading 10-12' of line through a little loop.
If you are concerned (and you really needn't be) replace the overhand knot with a figure 8 knot, which is just a bit larger.

I shall give it a try. I am waiting for some line to arrive and am really looking forwards to giving the rod its first use. Now to find an appropriate mark that is free and might have some fish in it with this extreme cold weather
