I recently went to one of my favorite Saltwater fly fishing locations on a remote part of the North Pembrokeshire coast. With the Western gear I caught 5 small Pollock, 2 school bass and a Mackerel. What's this got to do with tenkara you may ask yourself. Well when the saltwater fishing cooled off I turned my back on the sea and fished a little stream that comes out into the cove with the T rod and caught 3 lovely wild brownies. You couldn't ask for a better fishing trip and it was all free. I've been coming to the particular place for 15yrs and never seen anyone fly fishing only the odd bait fisherman and have never seen anyone fish the small stream. Unfortunately no pics but will hopefully get another trip in before the end of the season and get some pics.
I don't like disclosing too much information here but if anyone off the forum is coming to Pembrokeshire and wants to know the loction PM me.
We have a number of ponds in Pembrokeshire where you can fish for Rainbows £20 to £30 a day and they're always busy these anglers don't know what they're missing. If they lived in the city I could understand.

Sounds like my perfect location. Not sure if or when I'll get a chance to visit Pembrokeshire but if I do I'll be sure to take up your generous offer.
Cheers

I was just chatting with Stu Crofts a couple of days ago about the wealth of tiny, neglected streams which hold small wild trout that have never seen a fly or bait & where it is possible to fish free or with the land owner's permission. Exploring is such fun!

Here's a picture of my magic little fishing spot you can't see the stream in this pic but it comes out where the boats are you can see were it cut's through the stones. the Pembrokeshire cost is full of these little streams. It would be worth carrying a T rod in your ruck sack if you ever come here and walk the coats path.

Nice one Paul - sounds a great spot and I don't blame you for keeping it quiet. You are doing a good job selling walking holidays in Wales also - well done!! It is a beautiful part of the world. DaveS is right - finding one of these little gems must be great fun. Where I live I have tos satsify myself by fishing Tenkara where the method has never been tried- lots of rod and line but not Tenkara. Happy exploring Glyn

I bet sea trout shoot in there and spawn too Some of the tiny (and uninspiring-looking!!) narrow ditches on Orkney that run straight into the sea support a fantastic sea trout fishery. The locals target them in the saltwater. Sadly, after undergoing a great recovery following the mothballing of salmon farming facility offshore, those ST are now under threat again from the potential re-starting of the farming....Boo.

I fished the remote stream again this evening. Only an hour before dark, I had an amazing session I must have landed 15 trout and lost as many again. I couldn't believe the size of the fish, some of them were heading for the pound mark. One actually snapped me (2lb mono)I think possibly it was a sea trout, I think you were right Paul.

I love small streams like these. Mine! all mine! ... Very unusual to meet another soul fishing them. Sometimes you are surprised by the cracking fish they hold.
