Our Tenkara rods have been on loan to Pro angler Andrew Cartwright fishing the upper seven to evaluate them. Andrew found they suited his method of fishing well. When I picked them up he suggested a way of carrying the Tenkara rod when not in use. So what follows is his idea but my workmanship. I tried the holder out at the weekend, and I am sold on the idea. Have a look at the photos and let me know what you think of the idea and any improvements you can think of. The rod holder is made out of plastic water pipe which is a couple of inches shorter that the collapsed rod. notice that I wrap the leader; tipped and flies for transport. I have used some plastic coated garden wire at the base to stop the rod sliding through and to let the water drain. The attachment for belt is made from elasticated cord passed through a couple of holes drilled into the pipe. One thing I found useful was to collapse the bottom two sections, place the but into the holder which then leaves both hands free to change tippet and or fly. Any feedback will be appreciated. Simon

GREAT idea, Simon. Yesterday I built a rod holder out of 1-1/4" I.D. PVC pipe with push on caps and a belt loop like yours. I made the tube ca. 3" longer than the rod and have a couple of small vials that slide down inside in which to carry my weights, hooks, etc. I am in a hurry for spring to come so I can try it all out.

Hi guys,
Looks like a great idea for storing the rod, will def give it a go.
In terms of line management have a look at this link:
This looks like a fantastic way of spooling the line whilst not in use and it looks like the clips are small enough to still allow for the use of the rod tube.
Kind Regards
Chris

Good idea Chris, have you found anywhere in the UK that sells these items?

Hi Simon,
Tried posting back earlier but lost my connection.
I can't find any UK stockists for this bit of kit, bit of a bummer it looks like it does a great job.
Checked with one of the US sites and it would cost $4 for the EZ keeper and $40 for shipping! so that's a non-starter.
Maybe we could petition Tenkara USA to stock and ship them to UK??
Daiwa do make a product along similar lines but it isn't as suitable for our purposes.
Back to the drawing board...

Hi All,
It's been a while since I last visited - work and other hum drum stuff getting in the way of the important things in life.
I'm posting this as a follow-up to the EZ Keepers thread.
If you go to the Tenkara bum website you can order a set of two EZ keepers for $8 and he only charges $3 for postage to the UK, total of $11 which I think works out to about £7.
Payments can be made through paypal so are quick and easy.
I've just ordered some so I'll let you know how long it takes to receive them.
Haven't had any opportunities to fish for ages, hoping to get some spare time soon.

Hi All,
I bought EZ Keepers from Japan via ebay. Cost for the two was around the $11 mark as well including postage.
As far as the rod holder is concerned I really don't understand the need for it. The whole concept of tenkara fishing is simplicity. I have a tenkara wallet that I strap around my neck which holds a spare line,2 tippet spools and a dozen flies. I take a small fly box as well and my wading staff and landing net and that's me I'm off. I think the rod holder will get in the way in the rivers I fish which require a lot of scrambling up and down banks and through trees etc. Each to their own I suppose.

I too don't see an advantage of using the rod carrier. To me it seems like it would be more of a henderance rather than give any benefit.
I don't carry any additional equipment than I need to.
Kind regards SKUK
