Had some wonderful days Grayling fishing with my new rod, on The Wye at Bakewell last week. Managed 27 & 20 on conventional style. On the last day I used my new Tenkara rod, I managed to catch 17 splendid Grayling. It's really strange when you go for the fly line to pull the fish in and there is none! But I soon caught on. It's certainly a much easier way to fish (one handed) but a bit limiting when the river widened. I also used and caught on Sakasa Kebari. Altogether a superb few days.

Well done! Great to see you catching fish. Soon you'll be looking at pockets where you can cast a T fly that conventional tackle won't get a drift in. Keep the reports coming! No grayling here on my rock.

Good stuff browntrouter. I was on the same stretch last weekend with a Wild Trout Trust grayling weekend. Unfortunately for our visit there Tenkara was banned! I am following this up to see why as it seems the Haddon Hall do not normally ban it but it certainly applied then. It is a great river and stuffed with grayling and lots of it very reachable with Tenkara - no wading allowed of course! What a great start to your new way of fishing - enjoy.

I'm really surprised that it was banned. After all, I fished with it on the Friday. They seemed quite responsive to the fact that I used Tenkara. The only beat where they were not happy with its use, is the Town beat which makes sense, big fish, long rods & Joe public.

Hi flaghost I had a check with the powers that be on the Wye. They tell me that Tenkara is totally acceptable. Can't understand what happened there.
How did you get on with your day because it was a very frosty start, I wonder if it put the fish off.
