My good friend Lesly has sent me some pictures and allowed me to share a couple with you. No doubt he'll be along with a full report soon. Congratulations to Lesly who has just qualified as an official guide in the region. ( www.praatwijzer.nl/Slovenie/) Now who said Tenkara can't handle big fish?

What a brace of fish! Fantastic.
Is that one of the infamous Marbled Trout?
Slovenia is on my wish list & this may have just tipped it for me as a place to go next year.

Yes that is a marbled trout Stevie and what a beauty. Slovenia and the rivers is a gorgeous place and the water clarity is exceptional. The Sava Bohinka is awesome as is the Idrica(?) and Baca. It is not cheap but well worth a visit. Some of the giant rainbows are stocked for sure but nevertheless it is a great place to fish. I am interested to know which rod he was using - is it the 13' 6:4? The grayling there develop a rosy hue around the vent as they get older and the locals say it can indicate that the fish is getting towards the end of its life as the rosy area spreads. No idea what causes it. Check out with Paul Proctor if you are interested in going as he knows it well. All the best Flatsghost

Great photos and impressive fish...I must admit that I always use a landing net when getting a scale for a perspective on size as I would be nervous that the fish took a jump and landed on top of the rod...it nearly happened to me once...and once was enough . I hope we get a full report in due course...it'll make good reading tight lines Alex

Stevie.. Visit Lesly's website for even more terrific pictures. I'm definitely up for a trip next season!
Hi Flatsghost, yes it is the 410cm 6:4. Lesly said in his email that it handled the fish with no problem at all. I'm amazed at the size of the marble trout and I do have other pictures of rainbows and marbles he sent me. However. I'll hang onto those till after he produces his article. Don't want to spoil any of his cracking photography!
Alex... good point about jumping fish, hopefully Lesly won't be in touch after a particularly large fish has flapped all over the rod. Not a problem... provided he got the shot first!
