Clearing flood debris by hand during the heat of July....but it is all worthwhile when it is part of ensuring a future for the wild fish of the river: Massive thanks to JP for composing, producing and mastering the music and voiceover free of charge over the last couple of days.

What a great video and top marks to the volunteers. I sometimes wonder how much volunteer work is done by birdwatchers and other nature groups for the protection and enhancement of the UK's water ways. Without the fisher folk what would our rivers look like?
Lovely bit of Tenkara fishing on the end and some nice fish. Good to see the wet hand before handling the fish.

Excellent Paul much more worthwhile than going to the gym. I may sound a bit thick here but would it be better with solid access panels rather than grills?

Excellent Paul much more worthwhile than going to the gym. I may sound a bit thick here but would it be better with solid access panels rather than grills? There are quite a few design problems, although the access panels also serve to let some light through (which some fish species prefer - although others don't!). The main problem is the inadequate width of the fish pass and its location in a deposition zone on the inside of a river bend. This latter issue is a problem even at relatively normal flow levels. But I do understand the massively difficult process of getting permissions and funding in place to actually install these things and it is probably better than no fish pass at all. However I think that, given the absence of any option to incorporate a maintenance schedule into its installation, it would have been far better to go for a much larger width "Larinier" type rather than the narrow "Denil".
