Hi - please see photo below of a net that I have added a mesh used for koi carp to the frame. It is very soft and lets you handle the fish through the wet mesh without coming into direct contact with the skin on your hands.

Looks a good solution Paul and it shows off the fish a treat.

Paul,
Where did you get the net from?

Hi, the frame is from Tenkara USA and then I bought the mesh from Sheffield Aquatics (Langsett Road, Sheffield). The thread used for binding the mesh to the frame came from an internet search for "micro-macrame thread" and the thin wire hoop used to shape the "hem" of the net came from hobbycraft. There are videos online of how to do the knots to attach the mesh. If you tie flies, it is the kind of thing that can be mastered relatively quickly.

I've just modified my scoop net in a way that I think will be more fish friendly. I was watching some videos from tenkaraman on youtube and his C&R system impressed me, I've restrung my net to work in the same way although I've yet to test it. Basically instead of having a deep net it's now almost flat. Here's a photo: I can never get youtube videos to show up on this forum but if you check out my blog there's a video on the post about my modified net or you can visit tenkaraman on youtube: www.youtube.com/user/tenkaraman?feature=watch

looks great but I find scoop nets to have a too short handle. how do you get on with them?

I like to get down low when landing fish, I've never really considered the length of the handle and when wading it's not really an issue. I've always used scoop nets so maybe I'm just used to them but I think I'd find a long handles net quite awkward, the nice thing about scoops is that they're easy to move around with.
