I grew up fishing on the River Almond in West lothian, it's where I'll probably experience my first Tenkara fishing, it's where I've experience most everything else for the first time in terms of river fishing. First fish on the worm, first fish on spinner, first fish on the fly, first fish over 1lb and I hope first fish on Tenkara. I'll have a few opportunities to fish the Almond and it's Tribs before the end of the season and into the winter, I'm sure I'll make a few of those trips include Tenkara. I'll put any results (good or bad) on this page. To learn more about the Almond check here: West Lothian - www.westlothiananglingassociation.co.ukEdinburgh - fishalmond.co.uk

There's certainly Grayling in the system but they are few and far between, locating them is a real hit or miss as the population is so small and they seem to move around a fair bit. Put it this way, I've fished the main river for over 25 years and never caught any.

thetroutfly,
There's Grayling in both the rivers North and South Esk but there's not many I think....but I'll try again at the end of the year as last year was my first go at them and there not easy to catch...for me anyway ;D

I was fishing on the Almond last Friday and caught my first trout on my tenkara kit, a small fish but very welcome all the same. I followed that up with about half a dozen more in what was a very enjoyable session. I know the river very well so it's not a big surprise that I would catch a few fish but I am being surprised at just how much I'm enjoying learning about tenkara. If you can face reading through a lengthy blog post you can find it here thetroutfly.blogspot.co.uk/ but if not, check out these pics The Fly: The Trout: The River: I'm sure to be fishing the Almond again before the end of the season so I'll update here.

Sounds like you had great fun. Always helps if you catch fish of course! Did you try the bow'n arrow casting in the tighter spots or try collapsing a section?
That's a good looking fly as well. I think I'll have to get some pink wire before the grayling session in December.

thetroutfly,
It didn't take you long to christen your T rod...the River Almond looks really nice....I was hoping to give it a try this season but I notice from the The Cramond Angling Club website that they only issue day tickets up to 31 August...so I better get the finger out if I want to try it this year.
tight lines

thetroutfly, I never managed the Almond this year...but this coming season I'll definitely give it a go...on a day ticket....I'm going to concentrate 2013 on the Rivers North and South Esk and the Water of Leith....and that's a lot of water to cover tight lines Alex
