Steve, You bet it would be a great idea....the problem is finding the time...it's a three and a half hour drive for me to get there....it's just out of reach for a day trip...maybe sometime you never know...in the meantime...keep the posts coming of fish and river...even the same stretch is different every time you photograph it....I never get bored looking at photos of rivers tight limes Alex

Read through this thread a few times now and the upper Tees is now on my "to fish" list for next year. There looks to be on my map about 3 possibly 4 miles of water to fish, if this is the case it could accommodate several anglers per day quite easily. What about making a weekend trip Friday - Sunday stopping over at a pub/B&B with a social evening planned for the Saturday night. We may even be able to book the whole stretch for two day as a group. What do you think ? Hobgoblin

Sounds like a great plan hobgoblin.
Pick a date & you can count me in. I need no excuse to give this river another go.
Regards Stevie.

Stevie, I would be glad to arrange a weekend and social for Saturday evening if there was interest. Probably the best time to plan for would be April or better still May, the Tees is quite high up and as was pointed out in this thread it can still be lousy weather even then. If there is enough interest, I'll do some research and get a rough plan together for their approval. Hobgoblin

Yes, I think that this venue would be one of the best for a forum outing, especially in the late spring or early summer. You can also fish downstream of the High Force on a Raby Estate ticket. The water here is different in character, more rocky pool and less boulder strewn stream. I have only fished this piece once and didn't do much good, but I am sure it has its days. If the river is overly full for good fishing there is always Cow Green Reservoir, with Balderhead and Selset not too far away.

You bet its time to revive this idea Chris.
& i do believe Mr Hobgoblin is chomping at the bit to give the Tees a dabble.
We'll have to get our heads together & set up some dates soon.
Im pretty much ok for most weekends except for the middle of May,(The wife wants one of those sit in the sun type holidays) zzzzzzzzzzzzz!!
let me know your plans Chris, looking forward to seeing you again,
Best Regards Stevie.

Hi Stevie,
A few days ago the High Force was still festooned with icicles; there was a picture on 'Look North'.
Last year I had a day there on the 16th of May, and the fish weren't exactly in good condition, so I think it would be better to wait until after your spell in the sun.
When we decide on an approximate time I'll get in touch with the estate office to make sure we do not clash with any competitions that might be taking place. That makes it sound as if it's like Piccadilly Circus up there. Not so, in my half dozen or so trips there I have only met one other angler. But then if the Angling Trust's dreams are fulfilled there wiil be whole armies of us swarming along the banks.
Are there any other takers?
Chris.

Stevie/Chris,
Chomping at the bit! yeh, you could say that.
When I first became a member of this forum, this upper Tees thread really caught my attention and as you say Stevie i'm itching to get out on this venue. The Upper Tees will be about one and a half hours trip from here (just south of Lancaster) and is a place that i could visit a few times a year on a day out basis. My wife and I both went up to the Druid circle at Little Salkeld climbing out of Penrith towards Alston, not to far away from this piece of water last month and the weather would have worried a brass monkey. So i agree with Chris, that if a small get together takes place it would be best to wait till late may/june.
I am looking forward to a day out on this water and with like minded friends, even better.

I have contacted the Raby Estate office in Middleton and they tell me that there are no competitions scheduled to be fished this year: so choose your date(s).

My wife and I have been for a walk round the waterfalls at Ingleton today, when we got to the top there was still snow on the slopes of Ingleborough, this neck of the woods is similar in altitude to that on the upper Tees.
I think we should leave it a few more weeks before planned a trip/social event to this water.

Chris/Hobgoblin.
Looks like we'll just have to wait for things to improve. That North eastly wind rips down Cronkley Scar & tries to cut you in half. Hailstones the size of garden peas at 40-50mph that hammer blasts any inch of exposed skin. Ace!!! What a place. Not for the faint hearted. Wild fish from a wild place. Unbeatable!!
See you both soon, Regards Stevie.
