Guys, I'm thinking of buying a magnifying lamp now that I have started to tie my own flies....any recommendations.... and how much should I expect to pay for one Alex

There are loads available on the market from cheap to "oh my!". All I would suggest is that you select a lamp with a daylight bulb and that is comfortable to see through without being so bulky it gets in the way of the tying.
My wife is a beauty therapist (she is a beautician, not a magician ... no hope for me!) and I've nicked one of her old professional lamps for use in my fly tying.

You will have many more choices if you do not insist that it be a single piece of equipment that has both a light and a magnifying glass. A big gooseneck magnifier and a separate adjustable desk lamp will do just as well.
