Buglife,
Ow dear, your making a mistake. Dont ever fish the rivers of Skye for the simple reason you'll fall in love with the place & never want to leave.
Ive fished several rivers on Skye & they are full of brownies & sea trout, set against the most stunning scenery in the country. I fished them before i had any interest in Tenkara, looking back i would say the style is perfect for the rivers i was on & would certainly take my Tenkara rod when i visit the area again.
Im afraid i have no experience with Tenkara flies so i can only tell of the western styles i fished with. Mainly it was across & down stream on a combination of, zulus, black pennell, black& peacock, soldier palmer, partridge & orange, partridge & yellow, coachmans all around size 14-16. To be honest they will nail more or less anything you throw at them. Absolute Tigers!!
Good dry fly sport on the deeper pools with small black klinks & small F flies of any colour, for some reason i caught well on white ones in a size 10!!
Dont ignore the lochs if you have the time, I found the usual sedgehogs & black, natural muddlers work very well, even in large sizes.
I will be fishing on skye in june this year, on my way down from life time ambition of fishing the streams & lochs of the Orkneys & yes the Tenkara road will be the first item to go in the boot of the car.
Buglife the place is wonderful & it will get into your DNA, I wish you all the very best with your trip.
Regards "Full of envy" Stevie.

Buglife, Don't go without ordinance survey Landranger Maps...you'll need 3...32 and 23 for Skye and number 22 for South Uist....you might be able to borrow them from the local library for your trip. Get there before the midges come out...well planned . Take a camera with you...we want to see some photos of fish, rivers and scenery.... tight lines Alex
