Just joined and live on the Wirral. I have been fishing tenkara for a couple of years and enjoy it immensely.

hi flyfishertc and welcome. Have a look at Welsh tenkara social day in 'general' - i'm sure you'll be interested in either or both days.
Where do you normally fish..
Best wishes, Louis

Just looked closer at your pic Tony and now realise who you are - looking forward to meeting again.
Strangely enough, I've never been very successful with tenkara on the Clyde, usually too windy. I prefer to fish Clyde style wets ( but you know this).
Good luck...

I prefer to fish Clyde style wets ( but you know this). Good luck... In the last 2 years, I have found the Clyde hard going. There seemed to be very little fly on the water last May, but I can't keep away! I had a few small brown trout on Tenkara last year, but higher up than Lamington. Cheers!

I have a friend in Peebles who says that due to poor Clyde fishing, many regulars are now fishing Tweed. My last Clyde trip was in May and hardly saw a fly - very worrying as it used to be prolific. Keen to see how your next trip goes.

Hello flyfishertc & Louis, Is there any reason given as to why the fly life has reduced like it has? Seems to be a regular occurrence nowadays.

I fished the Clyde at Crawford on Friday. It was none too warm with a strong upstream wind;there were next to no flies on the water and I only saw one rise and caught no fish. On Saturday I tried the Daer Water at Watermeetings in the morning after the mists had cleared and the sun was warming things up a bit. There was little wind at first but it had freshened to a moderate breeze, which rippled the pools nicely, by lunch time. In the afternoon I fished the meanders in front of Allershaw. Again I caught nothing. I saw no rises or glimpsed any fish, not even a minnow. There was the odd fly on the water this day, and searching under the stones showed, as it did at Crawford, that "the rippling streams" are still "replete with life". I met a river warden as I was getting stuff out of the car and he was quite optimistic (unfortunately wrongly) about my chances of a good day. He also told me that we can no longer fish the Camps Water on a UCAPA ticket, as it is one best spawning streams and they are treating it as a sanctuary; but I believe all the other worthwhile upper tributaries are still open to us.
Chris.

Thanks for the information chriscreeler. Watermeetings at Daer is a lovely spot, to be sure. It's been a cold start to the year, so I guess the trout are not in sufficient condition after a hard winter in taking the faster waters yet.
