Has anyone had the pleasure of tying or fishing with Kenbane flies. I have seen it printed that they are the Holy Grail of Tenkara flies yet very little is written or spoken about them. That said there is a video on Youtube, from Tenkara USA, featuring Mr Takashi Yoshida tying these flies, it says, with the Alula feather from a Pheasant wing. The actual feather he uses is a pin feather from a Pheasant wing. See link:- Last season I tied one or two of these flies and used them to good effect (well I think I did). I had limited materials due to discovering the fly outside the Pheasant shooting season. Since then I have collected more than enough feathers for my tying. Some of my tying has been with the covert feather from the wing of a Cock Pheasant. See photo. I find the pin feathers are also better from a Cock bird. As the feather is stiffer in the centre you can fish these flies up, down and across the stream without the need to change flies. I have very little knowledge about these flies. Has anyone else used them?
