I have for many years struggled, endured& occasionally beaten the old "black dog"well known to many including Churchill. Some months ago Laurence Carlow wrote in T&S about his own struggles. This month there was a review of this book. As an indulgence weekend was booked at PT's office, the fox and hounds Eggesford,I bought a copy with me to read. Only just finished first chapter. If the struggle is also yours read the book. It won't cure the struggle it may make it more bearable. If only to know you are not alone and that what we live so much has a healing effect.

Mark I have been in a few dark places myself and thankfully not any more. It will be interesting to read this book at some time. It takes a lot of courage sometimes to open up especially to the world at large but I guess it can help others understand the issues. No black dogs in my fishing world and never will be. Time on stream is all the therapy I need.

re Laurance Catlow: I'm just finishing his 'That Strange Alchemy' which apart from being a superb read on both fishing and shooting, clearly shows his difficulties in life. He's a wonderful author and I'm sure we can all identify with some of his devils.
I strongly recommend this book and will now order his latest.

A lovely book, well observed and well written. Thanks to orangeotter for bringing it to my attention. Good to read during the lockdown. Busy tying T flies.
