Although well organised I can see the problem of having a relatively large group. There were only two of us plus our guide who was invited to fish with us. I know him from Slovenia. I cannot fault his efforts, just unlucky with weather/water and 'cormorants'. His name is Milan Kupresanin, captain of the Croatia competition team and I really recommend him. Can you imagine being picked up from Zagreb airport in his Merc' and being ferried about all week at no extra expense.WE stayed in the small town of Osilnica, on the banks of the Kupa. Sadly, even today the conditions are no better and if anyone is thinking of going then September is excellent.
I like the look of your rivers and I guess there are plenty to choose from but as we discovered, not all suitable for tenkara.
I would love another overseas trip but the prospect of 'cormorants' puts me off. Can anyone recommend somewhere which is less heavily fished - I can imagine Italian mountain streams perfect for tenkara, or am I dreaming......

Hi Louis, if you are interested in Italy, you should talk to Vito Tsurikichi Rubino of Tsurikichi Tenkara. He is an Italian located here in London (works for Orvis) with very good connections for fishing in the Italian alps.

Slovenia Part 2 I really enjoyed the fall 2014 trip to Slovenia but felt I could better tailor a trip to suit Tenkara fishing. So in early 2015 I decided to go back to Slovenia in June, but this time on my own. I flew to Ljubljana Airport with Easy Jet from Luton, I think it cost around £100 and rented a car from Adria (very reasonable). The car was off airport but the agent was waiting for me at arrivals and within 45 minutes of landing I was on my way. I enjoyed the time at Tilnik farm with Brett and Kate but I wanted more of the Slovenian experience so I stayed at Tourist Farm Zelnic which is at the junction of the Idrijca and Cerknica Rivers. The position of the farm allowed me to walk down to either river to fish when I wasn't been guided elsewhere. The cost of Half Board was €45 per night for a single room. Buffet breakfast and a full local cooked meal for dinner. The evening meal was a local specialty and all good! I had got on well with the local guide from the previous trip so I hired Gregor Novak for 2 days, the first day we fished the Korinica River. On the 2nd day we fished couple of rivers nearer Ljubljana well away from waters the tourists usually get to fish. The rivers on both days were ideal for Tenkara. Plenty of fish were caught while fishing with Gregor including a couple of young marble trout and several grayling. On day two we even caught a grayling on one of the rivers where Gregor had never seen a grayling in the past. I even got Gregor to catch his first trout on a Tenkara rod. On the days I fished unguided I mostly fished the local rivers but I also took the opportunity to revisit the beautiful Trebusciaca. I caught fish on all the rivers including a couple of good sized stocked Rainbows from the Idrijca and several Marble trout from the Cernica. The fishing, the food, accommodation and scenery were great. However, it would be remiss of me not to mention that permits from the Tolmin Fishing Club and Idrijca Club were not cheap!! Fifty or sixty Euros per day and if you wish to fish the Trophy section you have to pay ninety Euros for the privilege. Here are a few web sites to browse: www.zelinc.com/novakflyfishingslovenia.com/rd-idrija.si/wordpress/en/www.flyfishing.si/I know other forum friends have fished in Slovenia so it would be interesting to hear their experiences.
