I have done some digging around on Google but is there anywhere some comprehensive write-up on fishing in Scotland regarding rules & regulations and access to public/cheap water? I will be on a road trip with my family and mother-in-law early June and hope to be able to escape for a few hours to wave a stick and tickle some trout with a fly.
ANY intel is greatly appreciated!
Tight Lines, Karel

Hi Karel You'll love Scotland! We had a week up in Scotland by Ruthven Barracks. We stayed in a cottage called a steading, fortunately and by coincidence (Yeh right) it was walking distance to the River Spey. Much of the water in Scotland is very pricey Salmon fishing but the stretch of the River Spey we were near has good brown trout fishing and not expensive especially for me as we were staying for the week. See website: badenochangling.wix.com/fish#!permits/c20nd Lots to see and do in the area, the Barracks (old castle built by the English to attempt to keep the Scots in check), distilleries of course Speyside has several, well worth a visit not to mention the free samples. Fabulous walking, our favourite family friendly walk was around Loch an Eilein. I'm sure our Scottish members will have lots of suggestions. Photo is River Spey at it's junction with the River Calder.

If you are going to the south of Scotland the Tweed and Clyde catchments offer good, reasonably priced trout fishing, very cheap in some cases.
If on the Fish Tweed home page you click on 'trout clubs' you will find a comprehensive list and much information, but Morebattle and Caverton Mill Fishing Club with water on the Kale isn't mentioned and might be worth a look.
On the Clyde, Lamington and District Angling Improvement Association, and the United Clyde Angling Protective Association have miles of good fishing on the upper river. They both have websites.
Chris.
