Took the chance of an early Spring day on the Tanat to test my new Esoteric Strooan Zoom rod. First day out this season with Tenkara.
Combined with my usual 13ft level fluoro line it was a joy to use. There is no suggestion of tip bounce and the casting action was excellent, crisp and accurate. The maximum length is 12ft.
The obvious comparison was with the TUSA Sato which I switched to after an hour or so. The Strooan feels considerably lighter although the actual weight difference probably isn't that great. A very good feature on the Strooan is the rubber handle which is much thinner than the conventional cork and has a nice feel, very comfortable.
It casts very well at the 2 lesser lengths, even crisper and the lowest length of 9ft 4" will be good on the smaller streams that I fish.
A major plus with this rod is that it comes with spare top 3 sections, hopefully I won't need to use them.
The rod is supplied with a very attractive red/gold cloth bag and the plastic postal tube is intended to be the general carrier.
The finish is superb, certainly the equal of the Sato and at £125 must represent a great deal.
I'm pleased to say that I caught a few grayling and the feel whilst playing them was good.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

Many thanks for the review. I'm hopeful that as more people try the Strooan they'll pass the message on.

That's a fab review Louis and helpful comparison with the TUSA Sato.
Happy fishing

You might be interested the know that the Strooan is heavier (83g) than the Sato (73.7g). It just goes to show that distribution of the weight makes a difference in how heavy a rod feels, in action, rather than how heavy it actually is. The handle on the Strooan is where the weight is and not in the very slim blank.

Just returned from a 5 day fishing trip and I used the Stooan everyday. Having the ability to reduce to its 9'4"was perfect for the overgrown beats I found myself in, but for most of the time I fished it in its 12' mode. Caught several large brownies with no problem in either of its 3 lengths. Overall I'm well pleased with the feel of the rod and the aftersales service from Daniel. A great rod, that has so far put many smiles on my face.
