Could anyone tell me how these two rivers are faring these days?
Here's why:
I was brought up in the area back in the 60's and 70's when industrial pollution rendered some streams and rivers barren in these two villages. We used to fish on a tributary of the Meltham river West of Meltham Mills. There were some lovely little brook trout in an offshoot just by Brooks Dyeing Company at Royd Edge - but anything downstream of the mill was slaughtered by the swimming pool sized woolen die pans being dumped directly into the waterways on a regular basis. I can still recall the river being bright red/green/blue for miles downstream. The main branch running through the centre of Meltham village was also badly affected by pollution for a long time.
I have been told that there is now decent fishing all the way down through Meltham, Meltham Mills to where it joins into the river Holme at Huddersfield - is this correct? I hope so....
The last time I was in Holmfirth (about 10 years ago) I can remember looking over the bridge in the village centre and seeing a brace of decent sized trout just holding station in the current directly below me, fair made me smile. How's it faring these days - anyone fish these waters?

Blimey, I used to be in t'Slawit Angling Club when I were a nipper!
BTW: I remember picking up a Land Rover from the Land Rover Centre next to the river in Lockwood back in 1990, as I was talking to the guys a Kingfisher shot past. I was a bit surprised by this but one of the mechanics said the river had improved a lot recently. Must have been a good improvement, even back then, if the Kingfisher was about!
