Does one exist? I'm on a very limited budget and will be fishing upland lochans and lochs (mainly from the shore - but with occasional forays from my kayak) and also a limited number of brooks up here on Shetland. The brooks cut through peat - so can be literally stride distance from bank to bank but very deep and then opening out into pools up to about 15ft wide. The plus side is there is no overhead vegetation at all (the sheep ate all the trees years ago ). Oh, and they get sea trout in the lower stretches..... Is there a length/make of rod that could genuinely cover all these scenarios? I'm of the opinion that a long rod would be fine on the brooks if I keep the line and tippet length down...but i know nowt about it. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Cheers

I would go for a 3.60m 6:4 rod
Either ESO 360 Tenkara times Try 360 or 390 7:2 Tenkara USA Iwana
They will all handle a decent sized sea trout if you hook up with one but have plenty of feel for the smaller fish. The retailers of these rods offer good customer support, which is important because at some point you'll break a tip.

I only have a couple of ESO 360cm 7:3's left which would actually fit quite well. I have a new rod in the factory at the moment that'll cover the range.
Having said that, when I fish the upland waters (no trees) I like to keep as far away from the narrow bits as possible so the 410cm 6:4 is my preferred tool. It also means I can cast over the gorse that sometimes invades the edges.

I see this is quite an old thread.
New here. Custheyder dropped you a mail via your website tonight before I saw this thread, looking for some info for a rod to cover Big Chub mainly if possible but also need a bit of sensitivity for smaller fish, hope you will be able to help. New to Tenkara but not fly fishing so preferably looking for just one rod at the moment to sort of get me into this if possible. Nice seeing you posting on here though.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum gert. I have a couple of Daniel's rods. They will not let you down. Plenty of advice within the forum. Have a great season using tenkara. It is a great way to fish. Good Luck. Ian.

I also have two of Daniels rods. The length of the rod depends on overhead vegetation not the size of river. I would advise to use as long as you can manage.
