Had a good start to the morning when I met up with Monkey in the cafe near the river and had a full English. No wind and overcast with a little rain, but not enough to get me running for cover. Into the car park, a look at the river that was higher than I expected and with lots of colour, to set up with my new Sato and a heavy nymph on a short leader to try and get down to any fish in the faster than normal flow. Then it started, the rain, wind, and at one time we thought it was hail, turned out to be bits of buds from the trees. No way could we cast upstream, best I could do was nearly opposite and let it drift down. At one point it was more like spider fishing than Tenkara. We struggled on for a while. but it was a vain hope that we would catch, any self respecting fish was deep in the holes with a safety cap on to protect from the floating debris. Still not a waste of time, as I met up with a great guy in Monkey, had a really good natter, swapped some tips and got lots of very fresh Yorkshire air, even if it was at high speed.
Look out for his comments when he's blown back home.

I don't know about vain hope that we would catch, I got a positive take from a floating bit of wood as it zoomed by. Was good to meet up with you and next time the breakfast is on me.
After our chat today i have had an idea for a few more videos for you tube, I have a few bits on order and i will record a review of my jacket that held up well on its first trip out.
Fingers X next time there is a little less wind and water.

pssst... "Titanium Leader" it cuts through the wind like a knife through butter... but it's a sod to see, so you'll need an indicator section, which also helps with the anchoring.

If you take a look at the 'Tenkaraman' videos on Youtube, (there are lots of them), you will see Tatsurou Okaniwa using a titanium line for a different purpose, precision fishing on small mountain streams. He gets many of his fish from very small bits of slack water tight against the rock.
He has a very neat unhooking device too. It follows the the old idea of using a hook, or a bight in a piece of twine, to help turn the fish- hook and pull it out, but in a new (to me at least) and individual way.

You are not wrong. There are a huge number of videos! I've seen his unhooking net before and liked the idea a lot.

Fancy bit of net work. Great fishing though. Thanks for that Chris.
