Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info on Tenkara here. We are all still learning as we go: there are a lot of subtleties to learn once you've got the basics of Tenkara.

Hi Monkey Welcome to the forum and to Tenkara. If you don't mind me saying so, have a look at the Discover Tenkara number 1 DVD where you will find some good footage on casting and rod position which I think will help you. The casting stroke is much more wristy and you should try and keep your rod up to keep line off the water to aid presentation and bite detection. As Dave says, get the basics right first and you can build on those skills. Enjoy your fishing and enjoyed the footage as much as you seemed to be enjoying the fishing! Glyn

Thanks for the welcome, I have the DVD on order and can't wait to get my hands on it. I need to stop over reaching to get the fly out that little further, I have lengthened the level line I'm using by a few feet so I can bring my arm back in to my side and keep the same range. I hope that will allow me to work on my cast.
Was a cracking day out, this is the first year I have ever fished for grayling so I'm happy to even catch one fish.

You got it in one George - if you aim to stop the rod high on the forward cast (say 45 degrees or so from horizontal) and you also aim to have a roughly 90 degree angle between your rod tip and the angle of the line leaving that rod tip, then this will be pretty close to the "sweet spot" of the range that you will fish with that line.

Hello Monkey, I didn't think it was shirt sleeve weather just yet?? Must be tough in Yorkshire. You will enjoy tenkara. Great video. If I may suggest, book a day with PG & JP of Discover Tenkara fame. I learnt so much in just the one day and it set me up for the season. Good Luck & have a great season. I look forward to another video.
