Hello from Durham. I enjoy most forms of angling and fish the rivers Wear, Tees and Swale and being little more than an hours drive from the border I like the odd day on the tweed or Teviot. I discovered czech and french nymphing a couple of seasons ago after watching vidios by Jonathan Barnes which I found very imformative and had instant success in heavy runs on the Swale, but having only a ten foot 4wt. rod casting light and unweighted nymphs on a french leader becomes more difficult. It was while looking for a suitable 2 or 3wt. rod that I came across tenkara. After reading much about tackle and technique I bought an eso-tenkara 13.5 ft. 7/3 rod and what an amazing piece of kit it is and I can hardly wait to try it. Due to ill health last year was the only year I did not purchase a rod licence for as long as I can remember, and that is quite a while! so I will have to wait till start of new season to try tenkara. They say patience is a vertu but I am tempted to get a day license before then, but at least I have had plenty time to whip up lots of new nymphs and dries. Best regards and tight lines to all, Ray

Welcome to the forum Ray. Lot's of helpful folk here to offer tips, advice and encouragement. Sorry to hear you've not had a good past year. Raise a glass to this season. Look forward to hearing more as you christen the ESO. The Upper Tees is fantastic tenkara water as many on here will attest. Have ago at a few simple kebari among those nymphs and dries. Lot's of good video on YouTube of patterns. I like this one by Jason Klass of Tenkara Talk as a quick introduction to a simple yet effective Sakasa (Reverse) Kebari. Many more to go at too. Happy tenkara Phil

welcome Ray, I was stationed at RAF Catterick in the mid 80s and I remember the Swale running through the camp. Sadly never got to fish it but have often thought back to that river thinking what a perfect Tenkara river. I'm really looking forward to your fishing reports from the Swale.

Hello Ray, Welcome. You will enjoy tenkara. I have the same rod, the Eso 7/3. Found it a great rod to use. It managed some large Trout very well indeed. Not monsters, just large. Good luck with your fishing.

Hi Ray & welcome. The ESO 410 7:3 is a great rod for big rivers liker the Tees & will confidently handle quite big fish on 5x tippet. I've had trout to 3lb 8oz on mine & some good grayling.

Than you to everyone for your kind welcome and words of encouragement. I am very grateful to know that such a great source of knowledge and expertise in the art of tenkara is available from members on this site and offered so freely. I have took phil's advice and am watching lots of vidios on you tube on tying kebari style, need to look into these eyeless hooks! It's also nice to know that everyone who owns an ESO 410 7/3 seem to like them so it looks like I am starting with the right equipment, so no excuses the rest is down to me. Thank's again, Best regards ray
