As stated above I am an excited beginner to Tenkara, though not so far off my state pension! I live in Warrington and fish the Eden/Eamont, Lune, Ribble/Hodder and Welsh Dee, with some occasional fishing forays on other rivers in the UK. Curiosity got the best of me regarding Tenkara and one very senior forum member on here was most helpful and kind in his advice over the phone and in providing practical instruction on the river, as was another member and Tenakara Tackle Shop owner. I've adored my early Tenkara ventures, and though still scratching the surface, like Matt from Lancashire (below), it's wonderful potential and pleasurable pursuit is just beginning to dawn on me.
Thanks
Mick (belgiumcast)

Welcome to the Forum Mick and congratulations on deciding to fish Tenkara style, was it the simplicity of Tenkara fishing that attracted you to it or the fact that you can travel light carrying and requiring very little equipment . Whatever the reason Welcome again this board is a gold mine of information to help you on your journey.

Yes simplicity, lightness, mobility certainly had a lot to do with it, but from my very limited experience of Tenkara to date, it can be so damned effective as well. I love fly fishing but this has just rejuvenated my interest in a way I would never have thought possible. Mick

Hello Mick, Welcome to the forum. I fish the Ribble/Hodder. I like Tenkara for dry fly but have tried various techniques. I can tell you are enjoying it already. Plenty of information from some skilled anglers on the site. Good Luck.

Plenty of information from some skilled anglers on the site. Good Luck. Thank You. There are some of my heroes on this site and I'm sure many many skilled practitioners of Tenkara. I know I will benefit from the kind advice that has already been provided in some of the threads and posts and in future ones, perhaps making some modest contributions myself in time Cannot wait until Spring to, as Fluf puts it, scratch my 'Tenkara itch' in earnest on beautiful valleys like the Hodder and upper Ribble. Thanks Mick

Why wait? Grayling are feeding and a nymph is good for them, find a shoal in this cold weather and you'll be scratching like your infested.

Mick The advice to get started with grayling is sound. They are in prime condition and can be very obliging. They are also superb fish so do not miss the time to try for them and sharpen your skills before trout season opens. Enjoy your Tenkara journey Glyn

Thank you for all the kind welcomes. I have just got back from a week in Gambia, where the fishing sadly was very poor (don't sell your fishing rights to Far Eastern trawlers!!!) but the people, who had so little, were quite wonderful.
I did do some Tenkara grayling fishing in the Autumn and loved it. High water on the Welsh Dee over the past few weeks has stopped me continuing my Tenkara apprenticeship but I am booked on the river tomorrow before the winds pick up and temperatures plummet again this week. I will be doing some trotting but my Tenkara rod will be in use too (once I've discovered where the grayling are holding station).
Even when the weather prevents me fishing with my Tenkara outfit, I'm enjoying building up a nice collection of Tenkara flies at the vice.
