Hi guys, I'm Jim from West Yorkshire. I've been fishing in some form since my 7th birthday when I caught my first fish, and like many others it was a small Perch. I'm retired now and filling my spare time tying flies, fishing the local rivers, usually the free town stretches, and at the Leeds branch of the FDG. I started my journey into Tenkara last May when the Bradford City AC had an open day up at Gargrave on the river Aire. I had been thinking about it for a while and bought a rod from a friend off another forum on the day. A Sawa 13-15 foot. That day was a turning point in my fishing. We had two instructors in Tenkara with Steve Cheetham and Phil Sheridan. Weather wise it was a lousy day, strong winds with even stronger gusts, heavy rain showers with a few bright spells, and a river that was well up and rising. Didn't see a fish, but really enjoyed the day. Since then I've used the 'T' rod quite a lot and had some great days fishing with it. Like back all those years when I was 7, I'm hooked. Hope to learn more here, and possibly add to the forum. I recognise a few name here so it's nice to be in good company.

Welcome fluf, you're in good hands with Steve and Phil, hope you get some better weather days. This forum has all the info' you'll need - have a great time with our Japanese fetish.
ps: I may have met you when I tied at your FDG branch last year.
Tight lines, Louis

Yes indeed, Oct 9th, 2013 I'd just joined the week before and enjoyed the evening. Been to Paul G & JP's talk too at the Phoenix recently, another good evening.

Can I ask whereabouts you usually fish with Tenkara?

I was sworn to secrecy when shown this stretch of free water but as it's now well known, it's the Colne at Colne bridge. Has very easy access by some concrete steps and is ideal for older anglers like me for short sessions. Only a couple of hundred yards but lots of pocket water holding nice Trout and Grayling. And if you don't want to get your feet wet, there's a flat stone I use regularly, only problem is the tree canopy. When I figure out how to post pics, I'll get one up.

Looks as though there's a drop of extra water in the river JIm, did you catch. Nice picture by the way. Ken.

Not a fish in sight, except for the rubber practice trout, it was well up and rising, but still a good day.

Welcome to the forum Fluf. You'll soon get the hang of Tenkara & then you'll realise its potential as a pocket water method.
