Hi Ken & welcome to the forum. Lots of good info. here & also on Discover Tenkara site & Tenkara USA site. As for tackle there is some great gear available. If you can try out a few rods & lines to see what suits you. A day booked with Paul G & John P of Discover Tenkara would teach you a lot about the techniques & give you a chance to try the gear. Otherwise there are Tenkara Days organised through the Forum where you could get the chance to try out gear for free. There's some great Tenkara waters not far from you in West Yorkshire & north Derbyshire.

Thanks to all, I am laid up at the moment with an injured wrist so will be well into the new year before I can pick up a rod again. I am a member of the Dcac so will be mainly fishing the Derbyshire Derwent although the Dove, Manifold and Ecclesbourne are available to me. I also fancy the river Don but have never fished it. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction towards some decent tackle, I have been looking at the deal on Tenkara Usa for this Tenkara UsaBut don't know if I should go for the longer model? Ken.

Hi Ken Welcome to the Forum. Looks like you are spoilt for choice for rivers! I agree with Daves. Given your location you could not do better than talk to the John and Paul at Discover Tenkara before investing in a rod.I had a couple of days guided by JP on their waters and on the Don and one of its tributaries in Sheffield, travelling much further than you have to to do so, and learnt a lot in a short time (and had great fun doing it). They will also be able to help you choose the right rod to start with and you will shortcut much painful learning.
