Hi, All,
I realise that some of you have purchased Tenkara Rods from Tenkara USA, I've looked on their site - the prices are in $135, Dollars and I'd have no idea of what that would be in £pound Sterling? Maybe £80 or so? and then there's the cost of shipping! Can you shed any light of the total cost of the Tenkara Iwana 11ft, Rod - by the time I get in my sticky little mitts here in South Wales? Would appreciate your help!
Regards
Mostyn

Shipping for mine was $27.00. So the rod price + $27.00 in total
According to the tracking info it should be waiting for me when I get home ;D. The whole transaction took a week.

Hi Simon, I'm at the foot of the Beacons on the river Taff, & Taff-Fechan & Taff-Fawr : Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. 27, Miles North of Cardiff. Thanks for the conversion! That's $135, for the Iwana Rod Plus $27, for postage, = $162, and that converts to £102 or there about, Yes? I'm considering buying the Iwana; but I've not previously bought anything from the USA and a little weary of the process! You hear so many stories about customs and tax etc, although, this Tenkara method of fly fishing is in it's infancy in the UK, I think it will eventually catch on over here as it has done in America! So, with that in mind; I thought I'd better dip my toe in the water, so to speak; and I'll be asking lots of questions on this forum! Hope you don't mind? Regards Mostyn

Hi, Mostyn,
I sent for a iwana 12ft after trying Simon's over the winter break, the transaction from the USA was painless 112GBP total delivery was 8 days from placing the order. f you have a paypal account it is just like buying off ebay, as Tankara USA have a paypal account the same as ebay. It was well packed and can even be tracked as it travels from the US to the UK. US postal service e-mail you with updates on the location of the parcel as it moves depot to depot.

Hi Mostyn,
Simon ordered his rod first and it was a painless process;, after having a go with his rod I naturally wanted one of my own and the hardest decision was which one to buy after reading all the information about the different rods on Tenkara USA. When I ordered the rod again it was not only painless but a very efficient service.

Hi Just seen your post. I bought the Tenkara Ayu. It was held in the UK Customs for nearly a week. I had to pay duty on it and a fee to Parcel Force Maybe I was unlucky-dont know- havnt bought from the US before. Still a bargain I think, it is a great product. Peter

Experts, Purists, and Novices, but primarily Fellow Fishers, lend me your wallets, I come to praise Tenkara not to bury it. “Well it is slightly past the Ides of March” Having researched the viability of importing (both European and US tackle) and the profound but guilty heart searching justification to spend the £100+ on Tenkara USA (UK) to equip myself as a “Tenkara Novice” for this upcoming 2012 season I was wondering if like others there had been any similar grey matter thoughts of those who perhaps like me occasionally visit their UK High Street Pound Shop. Visiting today I was intrigued to note that on display was a variety of angling accessories including two telescopic “fishing poles” indicated lengths as 1.8 and 2.2 metres or 5’ 10” and 7’ 3” (six sections) resp. I pushed out the boat and bought one of each. The items are packaged by CIS ? See www.cisourcing.com although the fishing portal is shown as under construction. Initial rough calculations and trial fits seem to indicate that with a bit of DIY and patience with fine grade Wet and Dry paper a marriage is feasible although the parentage may be questionable. Before I open the proverbial can of Lumbricus Terrestris I throw up my hands and accept that I may be contemplating and under the illusion of obtaining a “Silk purses from Sow’s ears” but for £2 quid it is surely worth more than an idle daydream and inevitably will convince my other half that her purse strings should agree to the investment in “genuine” must have toys. Any thoughts would be welcomed as this is my first post to any piscatorial forum. Cheers Jmz

It has been tried by many with limited success. I have a 3m whip rod in the garage and at some point I intend to put it side by side with my rod to show the differences. Good luck with your project though.

I've never fly fished with a whip, but i do use a 4metre whip to jig fish with rubber grub tails for perch & chub on my local river the "Erewash" with good results, its ideal for narrow deep runs & can reach the off side bank for vertical jigging around structure. Give it whirl. "Necessity is the mother of invention" As they say.
