I'm going to be on holiday in Porthmadog in a week or so and wondered if there is anywhere you'd recommend relatively close by for a day ticket that's Tenkara suitable?

I'm making it my business this year to find those out of the way streams suitable for Tenkara and high on my 'to do' list is the Glaslyn near Beddgellert. This is only 8 miles from Porth'and looks highly suitable. Googling will show that it varies in character quite dramatically so find the best places, I would think near to the lakes through which it runs.I'm not certain that the local club do day tickets but contact them. This is mainly a sea-trout/salmon river but it certainly does hold trout.
I'm very keen to know how you get on !
Another option not too far away is the Afon Prysor which runs into Trawsfynnedd - they issue day tickets (£18) and have maybe 3 miles from the lake upwards. I've researched it and it looks very good. Again, please report back. You'll drive along the A4212 (to Bala) from Traws'.

Ended up on the Afon Dwyfor just outside Criccieth. Tickets are £23 per day from link and can be bought from Sheffield House Hardware in Criccieth. The guy there recommended the stretch about 2 miles away from there where you park in a caravan park. I had a little trouble with the overhead trees but the stretch further up may be a little more friendly.
