First session with my new Tenkara Centre UK Masu today. Rigged up with a size 3 level line to 11', 4' of 6X mono tippet and a little gold bead hare's ear. Once I'd got the rhythm it cast really nicely (and was even better when I tried a bit of dry fly later). No problems turning the tippet over. And then it coped very well with the rather feisty chubb below. Quite a battle for my first fish, but the way the rod loads the power into the butt sections is excellent. He went deep, jumped and even managed to get to the weeds, but the rod coaxed him back out and into the net. The rod was so easy to set up, take down and transport compared to a standard fly rod. I think for short sessions a tenkara rod will be my go to choice, and I'll certainly clip one to my vest when I take to fly rod out too.

Great start! I think the rod choice was a good one. I am looking forward to hearing about more of your fishing adventures.

Well done. Once you get used to the rod set up you'll find it easier than a Western rod. I use Fuji EZ clips & usually leave the line attached when packing down.
