Hi
What is the practical difference between a coated fluorocarbon leader and a pure fluorocarbon leader?

Coated fluorocarbon lines have a copolymer core coated with fluorocarbon. This is supposed to make them less visible in water. They will however be significantly less dense than pure fluorocarbon so will not cast as well as a comparable pure fluorocarbon line when used with a Tenkara rod.

This is really interesting and may answer something that I experienced a couple of weeks ago. Whilst playing around with some bits and bobs of tackle I ended with a piece of fluorocarbon in my mouth while I was cleaning a fly line. As I drew the said fluorocarbon out of my mouth I was left with a truly awful chemical taste in my mouth which lasted some time. I guess this must have been the coating? If it was, surely it cannot last long if it immediatley leaches into anything wet? The line is question was Fulling Mill fluorocarbon. Anyone any thoughts on this? I was extremely surprised and quite shocked really Cheers Glyn
