In the town it might be free but you would need to check locally.

according to my information the free fishing in tavistock is from the plymouth road bridge up stream to the packhorse bridge vigo street.I liked fishing the streatch up stream of the abbey weir trout not that big but plenty of them.If you follow the 386 towards plymouth just as you pass morrisons store on the other side of the road there is a housing estate which has a stream running through it.It has some nice trout in it worth a try
