nah .. My best ever trout season; using 20lb mono as main line and 3lb mono as tippet, best caches on ESO 360 with 7.2 mtr line, 5.4mtr 20lb mono, 1.8mtr 3lb tippet joined with figure 16 knot which acts as bite / line detector

Which mono would you recommend? I've heard of yellow seastrike xt being use but never tried it.

Copolymer works OK for level lines (and is good for holding off the water - as it is lighter than fluorocarbon). I have used Seastrike (it is available in clear as well as yellow) and also Red Ice and both are fine. I have to say that the fluorocarbon level lines are my favourites though. They cast so much better and are thinner for the same line-weight rating (better in a wind). Also, with a thin smear of Payette Paste, they float well enough to be very good dry fly lines. Myself and John Pearson were using 30ft level fluorocarbon lines with 7 or 8 feet of tippet in the Czech Republic in October to fish little (size 20) dry flies which hundreds of grayling took a fancy to

Thanks Paulg, I did buy some nite crystal and it does cast ok( in the garden) but not as good as fluoro, I can see it having some advantage on a calm day fishing the dry. As yet I have found now substitute for fluoro.
The nite Crystal will mainly be used on my pike/bass spinning reel.
