I missed sLOVEnia so it was time to go again. Nervously looking at the weather forecast a couple of weeks before made me crazy. The one moment it would rain the whole week and the other moment only sunshine. The weather was perfect after all. October is a great month for fly fishing in sLOVEnia
19 to 20 degrees but Cloudy days and a couple of hours spray rain. Raincoat stayed in the the car so that was very pleasant for fishing. Dry weather.
This is my first year that i fish with a Tenkara rod. My normal fly rods stayed in the car the last three times while visiting Slovenia.
I have the Yamame and Ito of TUSA. Great rods but i think the Yamame is to stiff and to short for my style of fishing and the Ito to sloppy for drilling the larger ones. sLOVEnia offers for me the best fishing there is with high chances for big fish (if you know where you could find them).
I needed a rod that was in between of the rods I've already have. So i got my hands on the Eso Tenkara rod. The 4.1m 6:4. This rod filled my needs by my style of fishing.
I fished in a lot of different sized rivers and I think this rod is my new favorite as a all round rod. With the other rods i have already broke a couple of tips the first times i fished with it. The Eso rod feels more massive and more unbreakable. It happened me two times that a big fish swept the rod around three feet in the air with his tail, it made a hard smack on the stones. Not a scratch! sometimes i got strangled in the threes but most of the time the rod was strong enough to sweep it out. I wouldn't recommend this but a other rod will break a tip in this way. The handle also feels great in your hand for full days of fishing. Nice quality kork handle with little filled grooves that normally comes out really quick. perfect all round rod for a nice price. I think i want to have the 3.6m Eso rod too for next season.
Slovenia has allot of different sizes of rivers with big and smaller fish. This rod handles them all and is a real pleasure to fish with. If you buy a new rod? give this one a chance and it will make you very happy. I'm sure.
Slovenia offers a wild variaty of possibilities in beautiful rivers with 5 different fish species. But for allot of people slovenia is only known by busy an crowded rivers stocked full with fat rainbows and expensive licenses. A image like a kind of "pay, put and take" fishing for rainbow trout. When you only catch stocked rainbows than 50 euros for one day of fishing is really expensive.
If you then also have the possibility to catch only pure and wild fish the 50 euros per day is not that much anymore. It don't get any better than that. Specially because the fish are wild and rivers are unspoilt. Something that is very rare these days. There indeed come allot of fishermen because this region is so beautiful. So they have to stock fish in the rivers to keep the fishing tourism going. When i came here the first time I've had the same experience. couple of years and many many trips later I've seen the light and found the true pearls.
some rivers or parts of the rivers don't have stockies but only pure and wild fish. With allot of the elusive marble trouts. and they can be big. Very big. The small marbles are beautifully and a fantastic sport on the Tenkara rod. Fishing for wild marbles is something you have to do before you die.
Not many people know where to find these places as they are very hidden. Needle in a haystack story. I did allot of searching for these pure wild fish rivers in Slovenia. I know it even better now than my own backyard.
Since i come here many many times. This was a very special week. A week where a dream come true.
What dream? To guide fishermen to these places i love the most. Wild fish and pristine magical rivers. It was playing in my mind since the first time i went to slovenia and thought it would be fun for 10 years later. It definitely is a very good looking "office"
Last July someone contacted me by email that he was in Slovenie and wanted to fish with me.
I never saw him before so it was unpurposely became a guiding day because i needed to tell him about slovenia and the fishing. I managed to let him catch fish. allot. it was very enjoyable So because of him I've decided to start 10 years earlier.. like upcoming season.
Now it is official. I'm the first guide for the fishing club of Tolmin Slovenia that offer fly fishing aswel as Tenkara in the package.
Why The fishing club chose me to do it?
They know that i could show the best side of fishing in Slovenia. I know the places for the wild fish so i could cleanup the image they have right now. I can show people the pearls you will never find on your own the couple of first times. I've bin here so much that i know know every rock in the rivers Baca, Trebuscica, Tolminka, Idrijca and Nadiza. I also know the way on the most places of the Soca and Ucja river. It's recommended to know this by the club. A recommendation for guiding is also that you need to know where to find and how to catch the marbles. They also expect you have the right contacts with the right locals. You also need to follow a course and do a exam and get a diploma.
Enough reason for them to take me up in the club and support
me whenever i need.
Enough talk and over to the pictures. They say more than thousand words.
This is how people need to see what Slovenia is all about instead of a put and take image. The new waterproof camera a bought let me take allot more pictures than with my old, not waterproof, camera before
First view over the magical Soca river. I didn't fish it much because i went more to the smaller rivers.
Like Nadiza river. Pure, pristine, and fishing the river on your own. peaceful quietness
Nadiza
Nadiza
Tolminka. Great place with some steep rocky walls. The most impressive part of the river.
Tolminka. Beautiful blue and crystal clear water.
Trebuscica. Smaller river but with surprisingly big fish. Stunning small river. Exceptionally clean water. Treat for your eyes
Trebuscica
Trebuscica. There are two marble trouts on this picture. Below there is a movie. It will show you where they are.
Trebuscica marble trout.
Trebuscica marble
Trebuscica marble trout. The biggest one of this trip. The Eso Tenkara rod could match his fighting without a problem.
Impressive head
Wild rainbow. On some of these rivers they will reproduce. Unique in a kind of way.
Tolminka marble
Nice fish with a big head
Baca grayling. the biggest one of this trip
Below some wild fish. The biggest ones managed to escape because you have to fish with barbless hooks. I always fish with barbles hooks so a couple of times the fish had won.
My new camera also have a HDR painting option. I like it very much. What you think?
