As the season coms to an end i had a last trip to Winn Gardens in Sheffield for a couple of hours fishing. 2 lovely WBT in 2 hours , even with my very noisy grandson clambering around the banks having 'adventures' This was the last of the day, back to the weirs for Grayling next week

It has been a wonderful season. My first fished on a Tenkara rod. Possibly not in ways that would please a "Tenkara Master", but in a way i found comfortable and pleasant, ( anyway, what do they know about the River Don !).. I have caught more fish this year than ever before! 2 Grayling and the rest WBT. 99% of my fishing has been on the Don , with a lovely day and morning on the Lambourn. From the War Memorial Social Club in Oughtibridge to Hillsfoot Bridge in Sheffield i have never had a visit to the river unrewarded. Bliss ! When your days not working out go to Winn Gardens ... top spot. Working parties with SPRITE, accompanied by my grandson, and the fellowship and advice that came with it made the season. Many thanks to the Paul H and to Dave who first put a Tenkara rod in my hand. And to all the SPRITE members ... And now to Grayling ... and a new Trout season in the new year... Tenkara has actually changed my life .... all that kit and caboodle that has laid dormant all season ... E-Bay beckons.. I actually went to a local trout fishery last week, first time ...caught 2 good Rainbows ... Didn't feel right ..like going out with my gun and finding all the rabbits staked out in a field to make it easy to shoot them ..... ;D Now .. how do i fish Devon Minnow spinners with my T rod ..

Great words Landsurfer, you cant beat a man with a passion.
I'll have to make a trip to Oughtibridge in the near future. I worked on the weir & bridge in the town & remember that stretch of river was lovely.
Stevie.

If you're that good Landsurfer I'll have to think twice about allowing you to fish for my Dee grayling, when we get that social weekend on track again !

I normally fish the river very early in the mornings, often in the water about 0530hrs and never stayed for more than 3 hours at a time. Some days i would also fish the evening. Never caught more than 2 fish in any one day, usually just the one. Often read articles where the author talks about the 15 - 20 fish they catch in a day ...i couldn't stand that much excitement And all fish caught on the same fly !!!! Tenkara USA Ishigaki Kebari. On Sunday i did not get to the river until 1100hrs but had 2 fish in 2 hours, brill !!!

That Ishigaki Kebari is basically an olive variant, not surprised it works.
Should anyone want some, I'll happily make them. PM please if interested.
I'll certainly be trying it. ( when the Dee falls a few feet)
Cheers.

I'll have a dozen please .... do you want me to send a pattern?
The issue with these flies is that the hackle gets much brighter green when wet. If you copy the dry version you will not appreciate the colour of the fly the fish sees. All of these flies from TUSA change colour when wet!
