Friday 20 July 2012 - Wester Hailes A few photographs of the canal I am fishing with the T rod....its close to where I work...but so far no joy with nailing a roach I've seen an angler here and had a chat with him....seems like this is a good place for roach and this chap's caught a 2 lb roach from here...good to know I hope to post a photo of a roach in the very near future ;D tight lines Alex

Good luck with that. I'm going to give a couple of contacts a shout and see if I can have a play in their private coarse pond. Have you got any little white flies that might be taken as maggots?

Hey Leckie, check out the following blog for some good fishing spots on the canal edinburghfishing.blogspot.co.uk/I used to fish the canal a lot many years ago and while I didn't go after Roach very often there were always good numbers of Roach & Perch around the back of Wester Hailes Education Centre. I fished the canal mainly for Pike between Slateford & Ratho, I've had a few casts since it was reopened to the boats and to be honest it can be a total pain at times, it's just too busy these days. If it's near to you check out Hermiston, it has some nice water and used to produce some of the best fishing I can remember on the canal. Tight Lines!!!

Cust,
I tried a Sawyers Killer Bug which I think looks like a maggot...but I'm sure I have some white dries in an old fly box that I'll try...I'm interested to see what sort of fight a course fish gives compared to a wbt

Might be worth hunting around for small ponds Leckie, far easier to locate the fish than on the canal. A few ponds I know of out in West Lothian hold good numbers of fish, there must be some around Edinburgh too. I've been on the hunt for some ponds around Edinburgh for this winter, if I find any I'll let you know.

thetroutfly,
Yes, I'd be interested to know of any ponds in Edinburgh...but I've seen plenty of rises in the canal...it's just catching them on the fly that the problem at the moment
