I've got the orange level lines in sizes 4, 3, 2 and 1.5 Now i want tot make some tapered lines.
Why? I have a Yamame and i fished already with the 3 and 4 line. The 4 line is to heavy in my opinion on a calm day. The 3 line a little bit to heavy when using a longer then rod lengt line. When i'm fishing with a big goddard caddis size 10 I can hold the line of the water because the fly works like an ancor.
If i fish with smaller dries.. the 3 line come back to me and the fly drags towards me. Not ideal!! I want a dragfree presentation. the 3 line is too heavy for it with small flies. So i want to make a taper from different sizes Starting from 3 tapered down to 2 and some to 1.5
The rod I use is 3.6 m, 7:3 and i can fish with a 4 and 3 line of 4m without a problem. I want to learn fishing with a longer line and hold it completley off the water because the fish are very spooky.
Any advise about the lengts per linesize to taper down and total line lengts.
thx allot

I made some tapered lines for my yamame rod. I experimented on casting today. It was windstill so good weather for testing different lines. one of 4.5m one of 6m and one of 7.5 m
I split the line up in the sizes i used. 4.5m tapered line
1.5 m of size 4 1.5 m of size 3 1 m of size 2 0.5m of size 1.5
6m tapered line
2 m of size 4 2 m of size 3 1.5 m of size 2 0.5 m of size 1.5
7.5m tapered line
2.5 m of size 4 2 m of size 3 2 m of size 2 1 m of size 1.5
For casting a weighted nymph all the lines were good if you casted with a quick action of the wrist and letting the rod do the work. You must hear a sweeping sound otherwise the line did not stretched fully. It was absolutely no problem to hit the same spot ten times in a row even with the 7.5m line. I defenitly made some good lines for fishing weighted nymphs. So thats handled now.
Now the problem!
It was alost impossible to keep all the line off the water when fishing a dry fly. A dry fly keeps swimming and dragging back to me when lifting the rod up high. I still not have found a solution for fishing long distance with a dry fly without drag. Bigger flies with big hackles on size 8, 10 and 12 hook that works like an ancor cast difficult on light lines. And a heavy line is difficult to hold off the water.
How do you handle this problem with long lines and dry flies to fish over long distances of 4,5m 6m and 7.5m to prevent the line coming back to you and to prevent drag. size 3 and 2 taper or some other solutions will be welcome.
I will be fishing in Slovenia with these lines. The water over there is so clear that the fish command a long distance line to not spook them. I need a solution for fishing dries. How you fish the small dries over long distance with all the line of the water?

Have you considered the Buttobi tapered lines with a short section of hi-viz? 8m of clear fluorocarbon specifically for Tenkara. Unless you are fishing very light lines I don't think physics is on your side for what you are asking.

There are drawbacks and benefits to lighter of heavier lines i quess.
As told i have a Yamame. Not the perfect tool for lighter lines in combination with smal dries I think.
A softer and maybe longer rod is needed for casting the 2 line of 6 to 7.5m. For weighted nymphs the tapered lines I made are perfect. They cast well and precise. I think they will do the same as the 8m tapered leader for nymphing.
I really need a definit solution for small dries with long line and keep all the line off the water.
I keep experimenting.
