I'm due for a few days float-tube fishing with members of the Complete Fisher Forum at Elinor on our regular Spring Social starting next Thursday evening. I usually use a 10ft 4# Streamflex for this sort of thing but am highly tempted to give the Iwana a go to see how it deals with a rainbow. I have three spare tips........ Anyone else tried for bows with their Tenkara rod? Rich

Rich,
I am going to try the T rod on a boat for wbt this season....but I've chickened out of trying for 'bows because the average weight is between 3 - 4 lbs in the reservoirs around here and I don't think even my Yamame will handle them. Let us know how you get on....you'll definitely catch them on the T rod...I'll be interested to see if you manage to net them without any tip breaks.
tight lines

I managed to catch a rainbow of around 2lbs on the Iwana afloat in my Fish Cat.
There's no way I'd risk it otherwise. Hell of a scrap.
The fish took a Shipman's Buzzer more or less dapped on the surface around four feet from my fins.
No pictures I'm afraid as it was almost dark by the time I got the take.

Rich,
Thanks for the report of your experience T fishing from a float tube for the 'bows....I bet your glad it wasn't a 4lb 'bow that you connected with...your wee legs would have been going like the clappers trying to follow it ;D
tight lines

Rich, Thanks for the report of your experience T fishing from a float tube for the 'bows....I bet your glad it wasn't a 4lb 'bow that you connected with...your wee legs would have been going like the clappers trying to follow it ;D tight lines Alex In the end I wasn't able to net it. I had to grab the line and shake it off the hook. I use a wooden tennis racket style net in my tube but could really have done with something with more reach to get the fish aboard. I'm in two minds whether to try it again for still water stocked fish as they're exponentially stronger than most river fish despite the lack of flow. If I do it'll be only from a tube, not from the bank as unless you're really lucky, and with a decent sprint track, you'll get well ****ed over. Even from a tube there's always a risk of a big fish screwing things up! Rich
